VP 2019 280HP - Oil Pressure
Did an oil change at the end of the season for 2024. Just ran it on the lake and oil pressure gets as high as 75 or 78. It does settle back down to the 50's or 60's but is that normal or what could be a cause?

Re: General Wiring / Audio Question
i don't know anything about your installation but yellow wires on a boat connected to the battery are usually DC ground, could be yellow or black or a mix. It's probably connected to the negative terminal on your battery. probably connects to negative/ground on your amp and probably negative ...

General Wiring / Audio Question
I have a dual battery with ACR switch setup. In addition, there is a yellow power cable that gets connected directly to the battery. This cable seems to power the amplifiers for the stereo system.
However, what is odd is that when the ACR switch is off, the trim can still operate and there's still ...

Re: Transom Trim Switch for Volvo
Yes, that's what I thought. It appears the MerCruiser's allow for the remote trim to work without the battery on because they have a direct connection to the battery. I wish the VP had that option, it eliminates one step and one of the reasons of having the switch.

Re: Transom Trim Switch for Volvo
I'm doing the exact same thing as you did.
A few questions,
Does the switch work with the battery off or does it need to be left on (I guess my question is if it's hardwired)
How did you know what order for the green, red, and blue?
Thank you, it's my first project in the spring.

Re: Which 220S?
Drekar, I have a 2019 220s with a VP 280 with about 105 hours on it now (I bought it with 62hrs last August) the boat is smooth and quiet, seems to have plenty of power even when we load up with 8 adults heading to the sandbars in the Barnegat Bay in New Jersey. The EasyDrain feature is awesome ...

Went with the 2019 with the volvo penta 280. Took it out today and really liked it. Has 61 hours and in nearly perfect condition. Beautiful boat.Stagdad wrote: Fri Mar 01, 2024 7:00 am Thrilled with my 220s with the 5.3 300 v8. Never a want for power or holeshot. Oh and it sounds beautiful....

Re: Which 220S?
Do either of you know mechanically what VP is doing to get the extra horsepower out of the 4.3 or 5.3.
From the spec sheet, I'm showing the 4.3 can be (200, 250 and 280). If the 4.3 280 is operating at the top ending of the horsepower spectrum for the encasement, does that shorten the lifespan? Does ...

R3 - engine size
Looking at a 2016 R3 - is the Volvo Penta 300HP - 5.3 (new design) enough power for the R3.
I've driven a 220 with a 300 and it's amazing but the R3 is 800lbs more.
Anybody have any experience that would be willing to chime in?

Re: Which 220S?
The V6-280 has variable valve timing and advanced fuel injection that the V8 doesn't, and is a bit lighter (903 vs 1022lb dry) due to its aluminum block and smaller overall size. Add the newer tech like direct port fuel injection, and I don't think I'd feel at all bad about having the V6 280 ...

So you would think it's not worth getting a 300? I've never driven the V6 280.

Which 220S?
Comparing a few boats: (all 220s)
2015 - zero off with VP 320
2017 - VP 300 with garmin screen
2020 - VP 280
All are similar in price (within 5K of each other).
So.... I like the idea of the quick drain of the new VP engines (I believe 2017). I've also heard the build quality went down when malibu ...

Engine Noise Level - Merc Vs VP
I've posted different engine questions but there's one that I can't seem to find any documentation.
This would be for a 2018+ engine comparison.
Someone mentioned that a VP 280 would be a little louder than a VP300 at running speed because it would need higher RPMs to achieve the same speed. Has ...
