Re: Salt Water for the Weekend
Hi guys,
2023 CS22. 3rd time out will be this weekend and I'm planning to take her from my Rack n Stack in Seattle through the locks into Puget Sound, and park at a marina for the weekend at a resort we are booked at. So I'm looking at 48 hours in the salt with my new boat. (Is 48 hours a long ...

Re: R30 Leans to the Starboard side
I suspect the 6.2 L twin 350s explains why my boat rides somewhat low in the back. They are huge. It doesn’t explain why it leans to one side a little bit. My dealer agrees that it looks a little weird leaning that way and he’s going to send some photographs to Cobalt To see what they think.

Second Season Update
So figured I would give an update as the second season is ending quickly.
As stated in an earlier thread, did the risers, manifolds, gimbal bearings and bellows over the winter. Had a corroded thermostats replaced.
This year, no outdrive fluid loss, and no oil used at all. We reupholstered the rear ...

Re: New to me 296
My recently procured 302 had the fresh water pump that would not shut off. Checked system for leaks, found none. Figured the pressure switch failed on the pump. Swapped out the pump for a very reasonable one from Amazon, and all works perfectly now. Here’s the pump:

Re: New to me 296
I believe I got lucky and found this beautiful 2013 296, with twin Merc 377s, Axius joystick, club interior and teak package. 330 hours on the engines. She needs a good bit of work and I have a healthy list from the surveyor, but it's all easy stuff, hull and mechanicals are really solid. This ...

Re: R30 twin 350 vs 380.
I have a '13 296 with twin 377 mags/Bravo III (320hp each). (Basically the older version of the R30) No issue with power even with a full load of passengers. She does an easy cruise at about 30mph at 3,000 rpm, and will do low 40s in the low 4,000 rpm range. I have not topped it out, but on glass ...

Re: rough ride
This is an interesting thread to me. I had a new R8 OB on order two years ago. A 2013 296 came along that I felt was less of a gamble if I didn't like the ride. So I was not going to spend almost 275k without assurance that I liked the ride

Re: New to me 296
Paul275, what did you use to clean up the rust stains inside the engine compartment on the hull floor?
John- I wish I could tell you. The boat needed so much work when I bought it in late 2021 I hired lots of help. After risers and manifold work this past winter, my bilge is a pigsty again. Not ...

Re: New to me 296
Launched last week. Very choppy 10 mile run on the Long Island Sound back to home port. New risers, manifolds, gimbal bearings, bellows and swim platform bolts that were corroded. Plus a few coats of wax.The weather has been awful since the trip. Hopefully we can get a good run this weekend.

Re: New R30 ordered but no Skyhook…
i have a 296 with Axius and no Skyhook. The only real advantage is that you can leave the helm and supposedly the boat will maintain heading and position. I test drove a Formula 290 with Skyhook and was not too impressed with how stationary it kept the boat (others may have had a better experience ...
