Re: Oil Change Save some Money

Always good to do the easy stuff yourself. Some oils are specified for our catalyzed marine engines, and other are not. Regular automotive oils may not contain the additive package needed for Marine engines, other oils may contain too much zinc that could damage the catalytic converters the modern ...

Re: Volvo 380 lifter noise

The GM lifter issues are part of the DOD (Displacement on Demand) system . The lifter seizes in the bore and the engine ticks. After long enough the lifter wipes out the intake lobe on the camshaft . Usually the #7 cylinder. The marine engines do not have these DOD systems. Thank God.

I lost my bail also, screw fell out and into the water it went. Gotta add some blue loctite. I would love to get the replacement info as well if someone figures it out

Re: R30 twin 350 vs 380.

I have the twin 380s . Love the power and speed. I think it’s more a question of do you want a VP or Merc set up? The extra HP and torque are nice, i felt the torque (400 ft. Lbs per motor vs. 390 ) increase of the Volvo over the horsepower difference.

Re: 2019 Cobalt R35 Throttle Location

Similar set up on my R30. Enabling the joystick disables the throttles, and during docking and close quarter maneuvers I’m using the stick. Still have to avoid bumping the joystick but the inputs are far less aggressive than the throttles if it happens. I have learned to let my crew deal with lines ...

Re: New Boat Insurance Recommendation

State Farm has always been good to me. If you carry a $1 million personal liability umbrella it’s best to bundle everything together. I highly recommend at least a $1 million liability umbrella especially if you own a boat.

Re: R30 Leans to the Starboard side

Table storage is on the starboard side in the engine compartment, might try removing it to see if it helps. Freshwater tank is actually more to the port side of the boat. Maybe try filling your freshwater tank. My R30 lays perfectly flat in the water. 430/380/350 all small block GM..should not make ...

Re: Pending Cobalt Purchase - Advice On Outdrive Condition?

I would run the other way from a saltwater boat, especially a twin I/O, unless I would be using it in saltwater myself.

Re: Expected R30 Speed with 380s

That’s what I’m hoping! Gonna try to get her out this weekend and play with the trim and tabs a bit. Thanks!!

My boat has auto trim and tabs as well. Tabs should be flat for max speed - Auto trim in the "off" mode seemed to help as I could manually adjust to conditions seeking top speed ...
