It was the lanyard. I must have knocked it off when I rotated the captains chair. My question is, why does the boat start when the lanyard isn’t in?

Maybe use velcro strips to attach the cushions to the base? It's a bit strange that they don't come attached.

I'd have a careful look at the props. I had a tiny dent (about the size of a baby finger nail) in one of the blades that produced vibration in the same rpm range you mentioned. Once that was corrected the vibration went away.

I have the VP350 in our 2019 R3. It's top end is a bit higher than with the 300HP version, but if you look at the HP/Torque curves for both engines, if memory serves, they are the same up to 4,00RPM after which the 350 continues to climb and the 300 flattens out.
