Re: Adding a tower

Late reply, but I just saw this question as I don't visit the site much off season.
I helped a buddy, fellow member on this forum, install a tower on his 232. He contacted Samson (maker of the factory Cobalt towers) and had one custom made. Our first step was to measure the beam exactly at a few ...

Re: Trailer Steps custom fab install

Nicely done. Looks like the main post is tall enough to serve as a hand rail when climbing up or on board too. I've seen other attempts at something like this (see below), but yours looks really sharp, and more sturdy than a lot of the commercial ones I've seen. And the light at the top is a ...

Re: Trailer Steps custom fab install

Finally, install time.
When installed, the ladder is attached to the tongue, just like the trailer jack with "u" bolts. I added a plate to the bottom to serve as a washer as well, to make it more sturdy. Then I wanted to brace the ladder as high up as I could, so I found a way to attach it to the ...

Re: Trailer Steps custom fab install

Then, deciding how nice to make this. I choose "bare aluminum" as the paint color so as to match the aluminum trailer as closely as possible. And I thought while I was here.... it would be nice or cool to add some yellow clearance lights on top of the hand hold on the ladder. These will run with the ...

Re: Trailer Steps custom fab install

After a little bit of time dialing in the welder, I wanted to test fit, and figure out how to make this ladder very stable. In addition to me using this to board the boat at the ramp, I also wanted a way for my retired parents to board the boat from the shore, that wasn't just jumping up onto the ...

Trailer Steps custom fab install

I've been wanting steps or a ladder on my trailer since purchasing this McClain trailer and Cobalt 242. Our typical routine when dropping the boat in the water is for the kids to get in the boat from shore, and get life jackets / throwable / fenders, etc. pulled out of storage, and put in their ...

Re: Stowing the ski pylon when not in use

You could try looking on ebay or FM Marketplace for the board that goes in the seat, that your last boat has. I know what you're describing, and I thought all 232 / 242 boats had those boards that fit into the mesh sling, on the port side of the engine bay.

New Cobalt flag pole kit installed...

Upgraded from the Sealux flag pole kit, and it's an improvement for certain.
A little background. Our '14 242 didn't come from the factory with a flag pole mount on the port side, like a lot of the Cobalts do. Flying Old Glory is important to me and my family, and I've always flown the American flag ...

Welcome, and congrats on a great boat!
Yes, the amount of storage in this platform is something we noticed before our purchase as well. It is a crazy amount of space, yet my family has found a way to use it up.

Re: 6.0L V8-380-C-D Stalls on Acceleration

Based off of my experience with the same engine... I'd say it's fuel related as well. This engine seems to be very picky about fuel flow. I would do as stated above, and change the fuel filter (water separator) and change the spark plugs for good measure. Together, those things are about $100, and ...

Re: Let's see your Tow rigs with your boat!

We purchased a good used truck for my daughter to drive to school and work. She wanted a truck, and my only stipulations were a 1997 or newer (for dual airbags) and that it was capable of pulling the boat when needed. This would be when going to or coming home from camping trips. My truck pulls the ...

Visiting Table Rock lake... what to see?

Hi ladies and gents.
A buddy and I (he is also on this forum) are taking our annual friends vacation in a week or so. We usually go to Grand Lake O-the Cherokees in OK, but this year we decided to go to a different lake, and are visiting Table Rock this year instead. We're very excited to explore ...

Cooler drain plug upgrade - 242

Ever since we purchased this '14 242, I've always wondered why the drain plug for the cooler seemed to be an extreme afterthought. The area where the plug should have been (we never received an actual plug, but there was a threaded hole where a plug should be) never seemed very sturdy or of a ...
