I'm selling my my old slow poke boat for one of these ultra fast merc 496 models. No way it's hitting 70. At least it may feel good watching the speedo hit 70 but it's more depressing when you gps it at 62.

I'm putting a 520 in mine to get 80 then!

Nice info, this is more of what I was expecting. I think it’s why I keep putting gas in just to make sure I’m not crazy and don’t run out of gas. The economy has been good it me.

That’s some decent speed, check it with GPS as mine shows I’m going 70 on the speedo but but GPS shows 62-63. You do have a bravo 1 so that should add a couple mph. Nice boat though!

I agree that idling will make a difference, but I feel like I have managed to balance that out with my WOT and cruising speeds. Perhaps it’s just an efficient boat since it’s relatively ‘overpowered’, and the engine isn’t overworking, again not a bad problem to have!

Creep'n Up

Previous boat was Just Creep'n so we wanted to work off that. Since selling that boat we moved north to Wisconsin so this worked for the wife. My thoughts are with 425hp, I am gonna be Creep'n up on you...

I have been a bit baffled by the fuel economy I have been achieving in my new (to me) boat for which we have had for about 3 months, and 20 hours. It is a 2004 with a 496HO, and at each fill up I seem to be averaging about 5 gal/hr of engine run time. I have filled up a few times, so ...
