Re: Looking to buy R5-6-7. Opinions?
I have a 2024 R4 with the 300 hp VP on Lake Michigan. It is worlds better than my previous 2007 Chaparral 204 SSi (21 foot), especially in terms of how it handles a 1' to 2' choppy lake. The R4 is 2000 pounds heavier than the Chaparral! R4 vs R6: they are almost identical as to roominess and ride ...

Re: 2021 R5 fuel gauge
You can correct the inaccuracy by adding a resistor to the sender circuit. The sender typically has a resistance of 30 ohms at full and 240 at empty, for a range of 210 ohms. If the gauge is reporting 10% too high, theoretically you would add 21 ohms. Try adding 15 and see if you like the results ...

Re: Swim Platform Hit the Outdrive and Props.
No hydraulics, but the prop on my R4 will hit the deployed swim step if the sterndrive is trimmed up any more than 50%.

Re: Looking to buy R5-6-7. Opinions?
FWIW, the service manager at my dealer mentioned that the R6 has a much better ride than the R5.

Re: R4 Helm Seat
It is metal to metal coming from the pedestal. I sprayed some silicone in there. Helped a little, but it is still very annoying.

Re: R4 Anchor Chain Jams
The problem was worse with the smaller diameter (2.5") OEM roller than it was with the 4" roller. I'm not the only one experiencing the problem. Maybe it's caused by the way we approach the chain as we retrieve it. In any case, I like the rope rode and bigger roller much better. Problem solved.

Yes. Here you go... Open the photo in Photoshop. Set the gridlines to .5", and you'll have a good plan to work from. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

Re: R4 Anchor Chain Jams
I changed to a larger (4") diameter roller with a deep groove. It helped a little. I also tried a different procedure to raise the anchor. I back up to bring the boat in line with the anchor, put it in neutral, and retrieve as much chain as I can on the rebound. Repeat until the anchor breaks free ...

Re: R4 Anchor Chain Jams
My latest attempt is 5/8" 3-strand and 15' of chain. On initial testing it seemed to pass thru the windlass without any issues.

Yes. V700 and chain as installed by the factory.
Here is where the chain snags the anchor roller cheeks.

Re: R4 Anchor Chain Jams
Yes, chain is superior to rope. I tried some 1/2" 3-strand per Lewmar specs. Lacking enough weight to ensure that it rapidly falls through the windlass and down into the chain locker, it gets stuck in the gypsy.

Re: R4 Anchor Chain Jams
The "bracket" has a bend at the bottom where the stowed anchor seats against it. If the chain is directly below the boat that bend prevents any jamming. There is no provision for the chain to run smoothly against the bracket when the chain is entering from an angle and contacting the bracket above ...
