Help. Trailer sets so low

Post by Crowncourier »

Guys, I’m new to the cobalt boat and just picked up this beauty I have a 2012 Cobalt 200 which came without a trailer from another state so I found one and bought it and drove it back home (400) miles. My issue is that it sets so low the siege hits the road when I try to go up my steep driveway. Not sure what’s the best option here. One option, what if I double up the bunks?

That was mentioned by A7. and Yes you'll be buying a 5000k lower unit and props soon!

Shorelander is a good trailer but universal. Typicality they use generic 2x6 bunks upward but it appears the attempted a normal bunk style with low settings and flat style bunks.

Your side hull as it meets the hull bottom should have -2-3 inches above the fender-well. It appears yours is 2 -3 inches below. have a marina who does bunks remove your boat to some pads and re-do the bunks. redo the bow stop and insure its loaded correctly.

Good advice Matt. Other than buying another trailer..
And Crownie, in the meantime, be exTREmely careful. That skag is so low I'd be afraid of every little bump, dip or intersection. And don't backup at all.
I'm sure over a 400 mile trip its already drug and ground some off the bottom. I'd clean it up, repaint and maybe install a stainless skag guard once your trailer is modified.

If I remember right, my old Shorelandr trailer had adjustable bunks. If so, just find a ramp, drop the boat off and raise the bunks about three inches. Boom.

x2. That trailer should have height adjustable bunks. Mark the current locations, including the bow stop, and move everything up the same increment and it should lift the boat and keep everything lined up. Looks from the pic like you'll want to go max height on the bunks.

The front of bunk is all the way up, I could buy longer brackets but how would I do that for the rear, they clamp over the rail.

Yep they sell longer brackets. Search them on eBay. Heck I think I have 2 10 or 12 inch ones in my garage from when I modified a trailer.

They should use a “u bolt “ but you get the idea. Universal trailers are just that. No worries as you’ll be able to center the bunks to help her load straight.
