Anchor chain length for 263/262 needed?

Post by Sealord69 »

Oh Hey guys,
I need some Info from your side about the the length of a 1/4” anchor chain, that fit in the Anchor compartment. I’m thinking about 100ft or 160ft length.

Does anyone have installed a windlass on a 263/262?

I’m building an internal anchor winch system, like what you have in the newer cobalts. I designed it myself, because I don’t won’t to put the roller bow in the deck, that is practical but it destroys the lines of the boat.
You cannot buy this from any shop.

Thanks for helping Nils

My kids have been my windlass on both my 262 and 263. :D In the bow anchor compartment, we store 100' of anchor line tied to a Danforth anchor with about 7' of chain.

Sounds like a cool project though SL69. Make sure you document your boat going through this transformation with lots of pics.

Great to hear!

Btw, I added a diamond plate pattern rubber type material to the bow anchor locker which I purchased at home depot. It comes in a roll and can be cut to custom lengths allowing for installation on to the fiberglass. This keeps the anchor, chain and anything else in the locker from marring up the internal fiberglass as well as for a quiet operation---especially while jumping waves. :D .

In any event, it is something to consider if you have chain (or any hard metal) in that location.

Looks awesome sealord. I’m sure your using the swivel so it will correct coming in.
Length seems to be 100 ft max depending on depth of storage so it doesn’t back up. Chain you can get more in but it’s noisy and without flag markers you loose track coming in .

Looking forward to seeing this process!!

Small update!

Single polished parts and at the end everything is welded.

Next step is polishing the weld.

Assembly at the boat next week!

Hey S33.

I actually just visited my local West Marine store and paid a fortune to pick up some needed items quickly. The receipt is below.

I purchased the 8 pound plasti-coated Danforth for the front anchor locker and the 5 pound for the back storage. They both fit nicely in those two locations on the 262/263 series. It works well if we ever anchor off the beaches in Erie with a line out the bow and stern. The plastic coat keeps the anchors from marring the lockers, look good, and are relatively quiet when bounced around underway.

Thanks Bud!
I have a planned trip to the West Marine in Cleveland next weekend, we have a birthday party up there. I don't know what I'd do without you and the others on this chat forum! Now I'm on a mission to see if Techie bought that project 263 to see if I can buy those transom cushions!
