New R7

Post by Tuscany »

Well, I went to the marina to pick up my boat, and to take it for a spin.
As I was checking out the boat, I opened the motorbox and was shocked to see this...

They upgraded your engine for no charge :-) that's a bonus. Very sweet looking ride.

Haha,
Well after a closer look, they put the wrong hat on the engine. The actual engine tag says 380 hp.
Anyway, I did get my heart rate up for a few seconds when we opened the hatch...until we saw the tag..

Probably better than if you had ordered the 430 & hat said 380. Your heart would've done more than speed up! Beautiful boat. I love the color. I've never seen a trailer with a ladder on the front. Know you can't wait to try it out.

That's funny crap. Would have been pumped then bummed at the same time. Lol
Here I thought it was only people on CL doing that not the factory. I guess that makes it ok then. I would save it for when you want to sell it to
Me in a few years.lol

Haha, I thought I scored some real luck there for a second :D ..until my sales guy told me to not get too excited until they run the serial number :x
In the end, nothing is free....especially from Cobalt..well..maybe a flag.

The 6.2l does have a unique sound, more like the big block...power is head snapping, but coming from an old 240 hp Merc, anything would be an extreme upgrade. Smooth and very quiet.
What I also noticed immediately was the bite in the corners the Cobalt hull has. It digs right in and corners a 180 like it's on rails.
We'll be taking it out tomorrow, and look forward to more good things.

Interesting.
After going through my owners manual packet, I came across the half empty sticker sheet that Cobalt used when labeling my engine. Looks like Cobalt themselves marked it as a 380 from stickers they produced. It may indeed be a 430 that they pulled and stickered it a 380. I would think they would drop in the engines complete with the hat. When my dealer checked serial numbers, they used the sticker from this packet. Anyone know the serial number location on the block?
Maybe a little wishful thinking here..but I'm guessing it's a 430.

I can't seem to find any visible block identification.
I guess I'll know for sure when I open it up after break in.
The other thing I noticed is that the props are different. The outer prop is quite a bit smaller than the inside prop. I thought the 380 hp engine props were the same, unless something changed with the new gen 5 engines.

You can see the stickers I'm talking about on a black plate by the dip stick.

Tuscany that's the way the props are. Mine are the same way. Your forward prop the big one gives you the hole shot.
