R5 Anchor Choices
Interested to hear what anchors R5 owners are carrying. Danforth, Rocnas, Deltas? I am in a rocky, lake environment, and the dealer sent me home with an anchor that has worked well so far, but it seems undersized. What has been your experience?

Check out a Richter anchor. With 6 feet of chain works great for me. Set it and forget it.

Re: R5 Anchor Choices
+1 for Fortress! 9 times out of 10 if your anchor wont hold you don’t have enough line out. I have a Fortress FX7 that weighs 4 pounds that I have 6’ of chain attached. It will hold my R5 with a 240 tied to it in wind and current on a river without moving. I’m not sure how a Fortress anchor will hold in rock though. Where we boat the bottom is sand or silty sand.

Re: R5 Anchor Choices
If what you have works don't change it!!!
How deep of a lake are you in?
I am on Norris lake TN. deep lake with changing winds through the mountains. I anchor on mostly in 40-100ft water rocky bottom. I use a box anchor on the bow as it allows me to put less line out, but it is HEAVY. I also use a stern anchor to keep me from spinning around.

I use the large box anchor on my r7. Like said it’s heavy but chuck it out 2:1 scope and you never have to worry. Even on a windy day

Re: R5 Anchor Choices
I have a box anchor on my pontoon boat. I use it to control drift. It won't hold one bit. If you want an anchor that will hold in wind, buy a real anchor.
Gotta love the people that throw anchors. You can tell a newbie in a second.

You must not know what you’re doing then. Large box holds my 6200lb r7 no issues in the wind. Mostly rocky bottom lake.bruceb58 wrote: Sat Sep 11, 2021 11:53 am I have a box anchor on my pontoon boat. I use it to control drift. It won't hold one bit. LOL...I assure you I know what I am doing. Been ocean boating for past 40 years and been in 30 mile winds anchored overnight with no issues with REAL anchors.tgrace98 wrote: Sat Sep 11, 2021 2:18 pmYou must not know what you’re doing then. Re: R5 Anchor Choices
In addition to the Fortress anchor, I carry 20' of chain and 250' of anchor line. I boat on Lake Tahoe where it gets deep fast while still close to shore. Chain helps setting the anchor in a good blow.
Fortress recommends 6' of anchor chain for every 25' of water depth.

Re: R5 Anchor Choices
Yeah well...
A few weeks ago at TRL Tgrace anchored a whole string of boats. Nobody's anchor held but Tims box anchor. And there's been lots of other folks that have testified as to how good they hold. No need to trash anyone else like your the only one who knows anything....
Of course if you'd have been there I'm sure you would have had a better way.... But I'm also pretty sure you would have been anchored out there all by yourself..
