2005 262 Dash Makeover

The wood dash on my 262 was in better shape than a lot I've seen. Until this winter when the clear on the glove box started cracking really badly. Well, my OCD got the best of me and I decided to try my hand at wrapping it. This was my first time wrapping anything, but if I have any advice it would be get a heat gun and bring your patience.

I've finished the project and couldn't be happier with the results. The best part is I have less than $25 invested in it and probably 6 hours of time with disassembly, wrapping, reassembly and labeling.

Thanks Snowman! I actually used a Dymo label maker and cut them down to fit. I'm hopeful they will last, but can always redo them again if need be.

Were the side panels installed at the factory with bolts or pressed on with double sided tape? (Or both?)
I’m curious how you removed them.

What a fantastic job! Spent four hours yesterday on my 2005 240 removing the wood-effect trim and steering wheel. Helm now resembles a plate of spaghetti!
I struggled with the side panels though (behind the throttle) are they bolted on or clipped? How did you remove them?
Seriously hope mine will look as good as yours does.

Getting those pieces off the side were a real bear. My advantage was that my seats in my 262 are on a swivel instead of the the 4 corners. So I removed the seat and there is an access panel you can remove to help get to the back corner. The other 2 nuts were able to be accessed from under the dash. Your arms have to be kind of like gumby but it is very do-able. The port side was a bit easier. You have the same access panel for the back, but the front is accessible thru the head. I had to pull down the wall with the light on it, but then it was very simple from there.

Great job Kbloom, I will copy your fiber wrap approach for my dash in Jan. Same issue, dash gets old, faded, looks terrible. With the wrap it should pop like yours. For the side panels I'm thinking I can just wrap them in place without removing them to save me the hassle.
