Hope everyone is having a great summer. Mine is ok so far which is pretty good considering the changes in my life. I have been a member of the forum for about 2 years now since I bought my 2014 R5 in July 2019. It had 129 hours when I bought it and I sold it on July 1st with 262 hours for a little more than I paid for it and the new owner loves it. That is a win-win.

I sold the boat because I needed something that would be more accommodating to my life which has evolved in 2021. I struggled with the idea and eventually decided that I needed to pull the trigger and move to a pontoon but the options I looked at were so far below Cobalt’s quality that I just could not leave the family. Luckily, Cobalt ventured into that space a few years ago and I found a 2015 M27 and was able to buy it. The boat was on Center Hill Lake in Tennessee and I live in Dallas, so I turned it into a working vacation. It was awesome to meet up with family on that beautiful lake and use my boat. That was the fun part.

On Monday, I began the stressful part of pulling 8,000 pounds of boat and trailer 1,100 miles back to Texas by way of Missouri. The M27 has a 9’ 3” beam which makes you kind of forget the weight because you are trying to keep it in your lane and off concrete barriers in construction zones. Then you blow two tires and you wish you just had to worry about the weight and width. But, I made it home safe and sound with no damage to the boat, trailer or my truck. My local Cobalt dealer sent me the window sticker which I am attaching for your information. The African Mahogany option is unbelievable and it is great shape but I would not have sprung for that if I was ordering this boat.

As for Captain’s report, I made the purchase on July 2nd and we boated all weekend on a pretty busy lake. The boat performed beyond my hopes and expectations. It was a great chance to test out how it handled the wakes and I would describe it as a tank in a corn field. We were looking for waves to run over. The motor started out with about 202 hours and ended up with about 210. The 300hp Mercury Verado did great and I was able to get it fully serviced before I left Tennessee. The motor showed no codes or other issues and it is now good for 12 more months of use. I was able to get it up to 39 mph based on the GPS. It won’t win a drag race, but you also won’t spill your drink in choppy water, so that is a good trade off for me.

The back of the boat has rust staining from the old roof of the prior dock, but I have already started to remove that.

Congrats and I’m sharing a brain with you on the M27. We love our R5 Surf but so far this summer we have 89 hours on our M27 and 47 hours on the R5. You could say it’s been our best boating year ever.

Congrats on a cool boat. For the rust stains, try some Barkeeper's friend. It's a very gentle cleanser that has oxalic acid in it. It makes short work of rust stains on fiberglass and stainless

Thanks. I've used several things and got it pretty clean, but some of the staining has returned from what I can only guess is run off from the ski bar which has some rust in the hard to get to area, so I will go back and work on it some more now that it is cooler.

The best high school basketball coach I had pointed out the risks and gambles we take on an everyday basis.
Driving down a two lane road, we take the risk, or gamble that the person coming the other way won't hit us.
A fraternity brother in college was driving home from a date, the on-coming car occupants were arguing and the wife decided to kill them both, hitting my friend head on. Luckily, he had borrowed his dad's Buick Electra instead of driving his MGB.

My kids have done the same, lol. The apple never falls far from the tree. Honestly on a clear night with the moon out, it’s hard to say no to my college “kids” as they are a lot less trouble than I was at that age.
