R4 Build Sheet
R4 Build Sheet
I am thinking about purchasing a new R4 to replace my current Cobalt 226.
Some questions, I am a little concerned about the overall boat weight.
Does anyone know the difference in the motor weights?
Volvo 300 (not interested in but assume this is used for the base weight
Volvo 350
Volvo 380
Under standard features it says Glass Cockpit, Dual Garmon 743.
I see under the dash options, Glass Cockpit Dual Garmon 743 XSV ($891), GC Dual 8610 ($5448) and GC Dual
($6599)
What is the difference?
What is the opinion on the electric seat? I usually get my seat set where I want it and don’t change it again.

Correct on the seat you will never move it. Waste of money. Garmin is 7 inch to 10 inch. Like my wife said bigger is better!
Weight not much differences between the 5.3 and 6.2 80lbs more. Heavier the better. A little junk in the trunk is good

Re: R4 Build Sheet
XSV has built in sonar capability to give a detailed view of the seabed. I've read that only one of the units needs to be an SXV version to get sonar information on both but I suspect Cobalt just equips the boat with pairs of XSV if you order that option. As to the engine weight differences, I don't know if there is much of a difference but in any event, given the boat weight, I doubt you would notice it.
My R3 has good performance with the V8350 DPS and Cobalt has told me the more efficient hull design of the R4 will yield a similar top end speed (+/- 1 -2 mph). The time to plane is a bit slower which would be expected with a heavier boat. If it was me, I'd opt for the 380.

Glad my wife doesn't think like that. (That's the dirty part)
She'd be more concerned about bigger bank balance. (That's the honest part)

Re: R4 Build Sheet
So if the dry weight on the R4 really is the 5500lbs. it weighs about the same as my R7. I know they are completely different hulls but in my R7 I would want nothing less than the 380.
As far as the electric seat. I've never moved the helm seat forward or backwards on my R7 in the 3 years of ownership. I feel like that is one of those fluff options just to drive up the price. I wouldn't do it.

Re: R4 Build Sheet
It seems that the up/down on the helm seat would be a good option. Do the regular helm seats go up/down? Moving the helm seat forward to turn the seat was always clunky for me. Seems like electric would be nice.
