since the volvo motors are a full closed cooled motor it isn't necessary to fog the motor. They use coolant instead of raw water to cool the motor. For those of us with the nest gen VP that came out the year before the quick drain. It’s still a closed cooling system. What is necessary to winterize? I’ve always paid a deale but now that I am south, I’m being told the bot stays on the lift and the winterizing company comes to you. Sounds expensive. Is it as Simple as Pulling the hoses and draining the manifolds? Do I still need to run with coolant? I have a friend who claimed this is what he did and the poured 2 gallons of antifreeze in the motor flush and bumped the engine…. I don’t know what the temp ranges will be

Fogging is for cylinder protection. Nothing to do with coolant.
You’ll need to refog if it’s an extended lay up.

So my boat will be stored in a slip on a lift. I'm guessing when I winterize it the mechanic will come to my slip and do it there? Doesn't make sense to drive the boat to the marina, get it fogged (plus everything else) then drive it back. Once it’s winterized your done for the season or you face re-winterizing. Won’t be able drive it back to the dock in the water unless you get a tow. No running afterwinterizinf as you’ll re introduce water into the system

Correct.
Fogging coats the cylinders and valves with a membrane of 2 cycle oil mixed with fuel for internal protection against corrosion.
Glycol being pumped into the outdrive around the engine “externals” and back out through the exhaust is for corrosion and freeze protection around the various passages that cool the engine, power steering cooler, oil cooler, exhaust risers, water jackets, heat exchanger, etc.
The easy drain is for freeze protection just in case the temperature drops enough on temporary lay ups to keep water from cracking components.

Is it OK to fog an engine that has cats? When I was at my dealer last weekend getting all the filters and oils (engine and drive) for winterizing no mention of fogging was made. They took me in the shop to show how they were preforming theirs.
BTW I will also run some RV antifreeze thru the system before I do the final drain push, to get all the other hose ends that cant drain out.

Mercruiser fuel injected engines with or without cats are fogged the same way. VP is similar although there is not a separate note in the manual like Merc has. Here is a sample page from the 2020 VP V6/V8 manual winterizing/fuel system storage prep.

The fogging recommendation for both Merc an VP. is to feed a mixture of 2 cycle and stabilized gas through the fuel system and run it for a few minutes. This is the recommendation because of fuel injection and catalytic convertors. I would not recommend spraying fogging oil into the cylinders if you have either. It is actually easier to do this than removing 8 plugs. I replace the water separator (which is needed anyway), fill it with the mix, pull the line from the fuel tank and and let it pull the remaining mixture.

Late to the party….A7 is correct. I called the merc hotline (old merc mechanics man the phones…great resource) and they said to fog the engines with cats.
I mix oil & gas per merc ratios in a storage can and hook it up to my fuel system. I built something like in the pic. I put marine rated swivel barb fittings on my system for easy on and off.

ANyone one seen anything about an aftermarket conversion or can you retrofit the easy drain to the gen 5 that didn't have it? I missed it by 7 months on the build. Seems like it could be/should be a bolt on part.
