Thanks for the really good advice Kate! Update to the progress on the restoration:
Engine work completed
1. Timing was reset (it was more than 10 deg off!), new Button, rotor.
2. Spark plugs, oil filter, fuel filter--Replaced with new.
3. Shifter cable boot replaced
4. Battery switch installed, cables replaced.
Work to be done
1. new drive shaft support bearing ( the current one is getting old
2. Exhaust Boots are old and need to be replaced.
3 Shifter cable needs replacing.
4. Entire floor replacement, some soft spots Will inspect stringers when the floor comes up
5 New Seats (Pedestal helm chairs, new jump seats in the stern.
6. EVA foam floor covering on new floor
I have not yet had the time to work on the teak in earnest, it's not bad, just needs some love. I agree that sanding with some 80-120 grit is a better treatment of the wood than using a brass brush, so I am removing one piece at a time and finishing each one in the workshop. Should be done some time in 2024

Just in time to start again on the pieces I completed this year. there is a lot of teak in this boat.
One piece that is missing through is the rear handrail across the stern. I see pictures of it on other boats of this vintage, and its curved along the path of the transom. I know that Cobalt does not sell an original equipment replacement (I can only imagine what that would cost if they did!) but I need to source the stainless stand offs, and a piece of teak that will match the curve and the appearance of the original. I am thinking I will have to buy a thinner piece of teak and layer it and then join the wood together to get the curve and the right dimensions of the curved handrail. I will post pictures of that process if and when I get around to it this winter.
I took the boat out yesterday, since we got a rare 80 Degree day in Virginia on Nov 9th! Here are the pics!
