It was fun while it lasted....

Did a compression test a few weeks back because I am not able to spin a bigger prop than the original 1 for the 502 MAG EFI. ( OEM was Mirage + 23p. I was not reaching max RPM with a 25p Mirage + or the 26p Bravo I) Came up with 2 low cyls. 1 on each bank.

Loaded the boat up onto the trailer and noticed it sounded weird.

Bought a cyl leak down tester and tested the 2 low cyls. Came up with almost 80% leakage. Figured I conducted the test wrong some how. Fired her up and immediately heard tapping and clatter coming from the valve covers, so I shut her down.

Looks as though I will be refreshing the top end at the very least on this engine I bought used. :(

Also, 1 of the 4 trim tab actuators I just installed last winter is leaking already.

I switched out a MHD 600/4 amp for a MHD 900/5. Re-installed the JL 13" sub in the engine bay.

Got the 12 in the walk-through up front and the 13" in the back. Love the way this boat sounds.

I will most likely swap the sub in the engine bay for a pair of 10" subs in a band pass box this winter. This way I can seal the back of the speakers from any potential gas fumes/fires and boost output at the same time. That's the plan for now at least.

The cost of a 525 was much higher than the HP 500.

Although, at this point, would prob be cheaper than where I'm at now.

Hindsight is always 20/20. If I would have invested all the money I have thrown at old cars I could buy a time machine and just go back order one the way I want. Or order all of them.

Not getting good news from the builder.

He's suggesting a new engine block due to salt water corrosion.

After seeing all the sediment and rust scale while draining the water from the block. And the intake manifold not able to hold a thermostat in place, I am inclined to believe him.

I knew it was a salt engine, but seeing the outside of it, I assumed the inside was well taken care of too.

This is going to be costly.

Is it just in the bottom of the block where the majority of the salt damage? If so I would be inclined to to a quarter or half - hard-block fill.

No. Lots of corrosion around the cylinders and ports that feed the heads. :(
