Pain sucks
I'm talking about the pain at the pumps. I know it's hitting everywhere. Definitely thinking that the price at the pumps is going to limit the fast boating that this group loves. As I always run the tank down at the end of the year, I'm looking at close to 50 gallons needed....x $5.10 for premium ethanol free... and that's not on the water!
How do you think the pump prices will affect your boating? Or will it? I see a lot of slip boating this year unless things change which I don't think it will. A freind of mine in the convienence store business predicted we would all be looking at close to 6 dollars a gallon in July '22 last September. It sure looks like he could be pretty close.

It’s the highest we’ve ever seen in the states that’s for sure S55330.. Gorda CA is currently at $7.59/ gallon. I don’t see it receding until around November with the current Ukraine crisis; labor shortage; and inflation rate trifecta. A perfect storm for $10 per gallon. It’s pain for everyone at the pumps (except liberals who prefer the higher gas prices to curtail ICE). That being said, our family is willing to sacrifice to help support Ukraine
. Praying for them daily. We are complaining about boat gas prices and those folks are just trying to find food and safe shelter for their families. First world problems for us. Survival for them.

Re: Pain sucks
While it will be a hit to the pocketbook for sure, I don't personally get worked up over boat gas prices. It will be higher than ever and that certainly does affect some folks but.....its a boat, not a daily driver (dont we all wish!). If it cost me an extra $1500-2000 or so this year at the pump I can live with that. I didn't purchase my boat to worry over the cost of running it. The season hasnt even started for us but will be over in the blink of an eye and I don't plan on missing anymore than I have to. Also life itself is short, so dont tap out on even one boating season!
Maybe if we had our own private dock with diving board or slide I'd consider hanging out there more often but unfortunately this situation doesnt exist on our lake.

Mine doesn't leave the garage so I'm good

100% think it's going to effect this boating season. Those that can afford to will and those that could get by before will not go. There is going to be a bunch of boats for sale this spring and summer. Good time to be a buyer
Honestly if they could get here I would welcome any Ukraine family into my house. My wife and I say it every night. Yes pray for them

Re: Pain sucks
I agree with Table Rockin… Life is short, summer is shorter! Maybe it’ll keep all the yahoo’s off the water ha ha. Yes it sucks but there isn’t anything I can do about it. I’m thankful that I’m in a situation that it’s just an inconvenience. Especially with what’s going on in the world. I think most of us on here are pretty lucky to afford a very expensive hobby even when gas prices aren’t crazy. If this is the biggest problem in my life then life is pretty good. I was a resident when Katrina hit and the refineries all shutdown and then 2008 financial crisis and then and then and then… there’s always something to worry about, you just have to count your blessings and keep on keeping on

Re: Pain sucks
Ill be honest. The cobalt will be in the hoist more than usual. ONLY because I have a center counsel also with a 115 on back that I love. Our lake will be $7.00 a gallon this summer. That's nuts for a big block blower motor

I'll still log another 70+ hours on the motor this summer. I just will not look as I hand the dock hands my credit card lol. Like others have said its for recreation and when buying you are taking on the assumption it will cost a lot to operate. Sure it will be more than last year but I will still use it.

To me it's like buying a steak. When I want a filet, I don't look at the price.
Biggest difference for us this coming season: when the wife gets hot, we cruise. This year we may take a dip a little more.

Re: Pain sucks
Won't affect our boating either...put around 75 hours on the new R3 last summer, and hoping to do the same this year, however most of it will have to be at our smaller local lakes as I'm not convinced we are going to get enough runoff to bring Lake Powell up to a useable level this year. Our houseboat was pulled in October last year for maintenance and insurance inspection, and unless we good a good rise, I'm not even sure we can get it back in the water currently. Lake Powell is currently down 175' from full pool. Gas prices suck yeah, but I bought the boat to use and no plans of getting rid of her anytime soon.

Re: Pain sucks
Sorry to derail but we are heading there around memorial day weekend. Rented a toon out of Wehweap.....I assume it will be boatable for those who have boats already on water?
Back on topic, kind of, I'm seeing more and more electric powered concept boats getting advertised. 10 years from now who knows what the power environment looks like.....hopefully one less volatile and not entirely dependent on the price of barrel of oil. Tesla owners are probably high-fiving right now.

Re: Pain sucks
The pump prices are probably going to continue to rise. Since I won't be trailering any more, I guess that will offset some of the cost. Have to admit, there will probably be more cruising just on plane at 20mph vs 35+ or even more cove cruising. I have a lot of lake to explore!
Some great points about first world problems... At least when I hear a plane fly over, I don't feel like I have to duck. I can't imaging what it's like being in Ukraine right now and watching your homeland ripped apart. I saw today that over 1.4MM had fled to Poland alone--that's only about 3%. I'd be surprised if it wasn't much higher in reality.

Re: Pain sucks
Again yes many on here have deeper pockets then others. But I will bet after the first or second fill at $500+ second thoughts will set it. At $300 a fill for me at 6 bucks a gal I 100% know it will affect my boating and that doesn't include the 10mpg my vehicle gets pulling it. My boat is pd for so I don't care as much to fill like I have to use it because I'm making payments.

Re: Pain sucks
Should be interesting to see the prices this summer. Since we transitioned to a Marker One ML4, hopefully it is more full efficient than the 226.. If not there will be a short ride to one of two swim spots. The closest one 75 from the dock in our backyard..
