2016 R5 Electric Head - valve location?

Post by ODay »

Hey Guys,

It is going to take us a while to figure out where everything is on our new boat. The first one is how to operate the head ready for our outing tomorrow :)

The user manual provides brief information about how to operate the head, including the need to open valves/sea-cocks but does not say where they are!

Can anyone point me to where to find the valves/sea-cocks for the head?

Thanks

On my 2014 R5 and I would think a 2016 is the same -- the seacock for the head is right in front of the engine - can't miss it.

Thanks, I see that one now!

And the output? The one that chooses overboard or pump-out - do you know where that one is?

Mine does not have an overboard discharge option, head flushes into holding tank and can only be pumped out.

If like mine the valve is in the front of the ski locker, 3 way valve that is zip tied to empty to the tank. It is up high so you'll have to get down and use a light to see it.

Thanks, found it!

Is there also a sea-cock immediately before the in-water discharge or is the three-way valve the only one? If there is a sea-cock I would like to make sure it is closed to prevent a perished pipe or other issue causing a leak of external water back into the boat.

Thank I’m not sure of. I’ve never used it so haven’t ever looked, just wondered if it came out above the water line.

Well that's an unpleasant thought - I don't think I'd want that down the side of our boat :D

Thanks for the pointer though, there are these couple of outlets. I guess the one under the window could be for the sink and the one forward of it could be for the toilet ...

I think you might be right -- I know the one under the porthole is for the sink (I have the same on my R5). I would also guess the other one is for the holding tank overboard discharges -- my R5 does not have an overboard discharge and I do not have that thru hull. A couple of other notes, the vent left of the porthole is for the holding tank which is under the portside bow seat. I know one sure way to find out! ;)

Thanks for the extra info. I don't know if the previous owner every used the overboard discharge ( they were in saltwater and once far enough outside the heads they might have pumped it out ) but really, I just needed to know where it is so I could make sure any sea-cock is turned off - we are in freshwater and so we have to pump it out at the discharge point. I think I'll assume that the the 2nd outlet is for the holding tank and so I can rest easy that there is no sea-cock to worry about. Not looking forward to the pump out mind you - hopefully we can limit use to number 1's :D

Yeah - I know in the states you have to somehow disable the overboard discharge so it doesn't get dumped accidentally - I just removed the handle from my Y valve to accomplish this (this was on a SeaRay Sundancer). On your R5, I am guessing there is a valve in the ski locker like others have mentioned.
Like you, I am on an inland lake, so dumping overboard is never an option. Luckily my marina has a pump out that is free and convenient.
