What if I told you I had a quest...

Post by liquid »

Would you come along? Would you help spend someone else's $$$ with me?

I thought so. I'm out of my element a bit on this one so I'm hoping some of our "salties" can do some heavy lifting, although I'm positive we'll all enjoy.

Pops is buying a place on the canal in Sanibel Fl. Needs a whip.

Nothing crazy - functional and clean. Center console. 19 - 22 ft. live well, solid tech, reasonably powered... again nothing crazy. Looking for clean. Budget up to 40K but I'm sure he'd feel better around 20.

He'll use this everyday, all over the intercoastal etc. He's also in his mid 70's so the less bells and whistles the better. Pure functionality.

I've already mentioned my affinity for SeaVee but I don't think they're in his range. He likes the Robalo's  so let's find him something cool.

Bonus - I get to use this thing when I visit so I have to love it. Kids etc so we need some comfy spots up front. Single engine is sufficient.

Here's one option, liquid. My 70 some year old dad has a Scout. Loyal following.

I don't hate Robalo as a coastal boat, although I tend to think of other brands first when it comes to value. Maye a clean, used one like:

Decent engine and electronics for the price, and it even has a sort of sketchy-looking head on board!

I will also say that one of the best riding boats on the ocean are the Sea Cat's. Their hull provides a phenomenal ride and a certain functionality. May be another option from which to choose if he is not "stuck" on Robalo.

AsLan, that's a great point - especially as he and his friends get older. And catamarans are also typically pretty space and fuel-efficient.

Damnit! I can't see T's video at work... Will check later.

John I don't dislike the Robalo's and they're certainly in his range... I just can't help think Bayliner when I see them. Still might end up with one. Although building them out brand new they're only like 45...

Aslan - really good point about the Cat's. I always write them off as I think about what I'd like but balance is important. The Cobia's also have a level floor bow to stern which is interesting but I always thought of them for novice fisherman who can't find their legs in rollers.

BB - half the reason I posted this thread was to give you an opportunity to post your favorites. Keep them coming.

If I had my druthers... https://www.seaveeboats.com/center-cons ... y-edition/

Personally I like the Century's. That's just nostalgia for the most part but so what. Check this one out: http://www.boattrader.com/listing/2004- ... -103116092

Also, I'm disapointed in the lack of turtle & snake mentions in the thread so far. If someone doesn't get way off topic soon I'm going to get upset. You're better than this.
