First Time Cobalt Owner

Post by Zx4 »

Great forum here you have all put together!
Just bought a 2000 226 in excellent condition. The only upgrades I will need to do before spring are;

1) Upgrade the audio system. I want to change all of the stock speakers and head unit.

2) Upgrade the docking lights to LED's

3) Install some interior lighting.

Any suggestions would be very helpful & welcome. We love our music on the boat so I want to upgrade to something nice.

Hey Zx4. So glad you found us.

Plenty of audio threads here but I’m a big fan of JL Audio for inside boat tunes and Wet Sounds tower speakers and amps for outside boat tunes due to their projection abilities.

Have you changed out your cup holders for stainless ones?

And thanks for the site compliment. Many great folks here with an abundance of wisdom. We love pics too. Any of your Cobalt?

Again welcome aboard mate!

Welcome, what color scheme and motor did you get?
I am in the process of upgrading the stereo system in mine as well. So far I have replaced the head unit with a JL Media Master and have started running all new power, speaker, and RGB wire. I plan on using JL M series amps and adding a subwoofer. Still not sure what speakers I am going to be using, for I am trying to find a stereo shop that carries marine speakers so I can compare all the different brands.
Keep us posted on the progress of your upgrades.

Thank you for the informative responses! I have not changed the cup holders but will put that on the list. I also am a fan of JL Audio, however, I have never had one of their head units.
The boat is white with black striping and has a 7.4 Mercruiser wit Captains Call.

I will send pics as soon as I pick it up and detail this spring. It is currently in storage and was covered back up and put away after I looked at it.
