Recall Notice - Dometic Steering Rack

Dear Valued Cobalt Owner,
Cobalt Boats continually strives to produce the highest quality boats on the water, but occasionally we discover that an issue has arisen. In this case, we have been notified of a recall issued by one of our suppliers, Dometic Marine, for steering cables installed in Model Year 2023 Cobalt boats.
You are receiving this letter because our records indicate you purchased a Model Year 2023 Cobalt boat that has been identified as having a potential steering issue.
Dometic Marine is a large supplier of marine components and one of very few that supplies this component for boats across several segments. As a result, this potential defect is across many brands. We have included a copy of Dometic Marine’s letter to you, the customer for your reference.
As Dometic instructs in their letter, be aware that continued operation of the boat may result in failure of the steering cable and, subsequently, loss of steering. Please DO NOT operate the boat until the steering cable has been inspected / corrected. Continued use of the boat could result in property damage, personal injury, or death.
We recognize resolving this issue is an inconvenience to you, and for this we do apologize. Unfortunately, this failure by Dometic Marine impacts you as well as Cobalt. We will work with Dometic to do everything possible to make certain they provide satisfactory components in the future.
Please schedule an appointment with your authorized Cobalt dealer as soon as possible to have this issue corrected. Your Cobalt dealer has already been notified of the issue and stands ready to assist you with timely repairs.

Well that sucks! I got two recall notices for our 2022, neither were issues that warranted immediate attention. Hope they get that sorted for you quickly.

Apparently Cobalt was doing better in pre-Covid 2019 when my boat was built.

A lot of things were doing better - "supply chain" seems to be the go-to excuse for poor service and quality these days. I constantly have trouble finding things for the cars and boat - just routine maintenance supplies and when I do just about everything is 20% higher than a year ago. Not knocking Cobalt, I would suspect for quality companies some of supply issues are real, but for many it's just an excuse.

Funny, the billing and pricing side of things seems to have not missed a beat!

Fortunately I haven't received that letter for my 2021 R6. I received the anti-siphon valve recall letter last October. Hopefully it's a quick fix for the steering issue.

Today is one month since I received the email from Cobalt on the Dometic Marine cable issue. Still no resolution. I'm waiting on the dealer to get parts and perform the modification. I did an internet search and the issue is affecting several boat manufacturers.

So to be clear just so I'm not worried about it... is this an issue that affects only the 2023 models? Or is just if you got one of the bad cables?

The dealer completed the repair today!
