I get an occasional check engine, which nobody seems to be able to figure out. So I bought a Rinda code scanner. But for the life of me I don’t know where the ECU is and the diagnostic connector that should be next to it. Can anyone point me in the direction of where I would find the diagnostic connector for a v8 380 in an r7?

Silly me, I thought it would be attached to a bulkhead somewhere. It’s bolted right to the top of the engine and I found it.

Interesting, were you able to read the read fault on the 2.5" display as shown below, and the dealer or VP was not able to assist? What was the PSID/SID?

I simply have 2 round gauges, they indicate check engine at startup, I have never found anything beyond that, a simple idiot light with no detail. Using the Rinda I get 2 recurring faults, SPN 698 Failure Mode = 5 Aux PWM driver 2/analog gauge driver and SPN 699 Failure Mode = 5 Aux PWM driver 3/analog gauge driver. These return immediately after clearing the codes, simply with just a power up. My take is that there are some analog gauges the system is looking for that I do not have. When you turn the ignition on it flashes check engine for a bit and goes away.
There were 3 inactive faults as well.
1. SPN 91 Accel Pedal/Lever Sensor 1m Failure Mode = 1 Data valid but below normal range. I am assuming this is what triggers the occasional "check engine" warning. It only seems to happen when I am towing tubers, lot's of power changes trying to make it thrill ride without quite killing them. After a few minutes and with a few starts the problem clears itself though other than the gauge and warning chime it operates fine. Disconcerting as all you get is the warning with no supporting info. I checked all the fluids, voltage, pressures and temp and all were always normal.
2. SPN 1213 Malfunction Lamp (MIL) Failure Mode = 5, Current below normal or open circuit.
3. SPN 926 Auxillary (their spelling mistake) Output #3 Failure Mode = 5, Current below normal or open circuit.
I bought the boat out of state, the local dealer has been a lot less than supportive as I did not buy it from them. Had to beg them to look at the boat last year, turns out it was a recall fix but it was a nightmare to get them to do anything. They somehow managed to make a warranty/recall fix cost me 3k+ so not a super fan. It also seems that when they did the work they disconnected the steering rack and did not tighten the fittings so I was losing fluid. I tracked that down yesterday (I hope) but only time will tell on that one.
That said these are annoyances, we really love the boat, roomy, decent ride, looks great etc....

Thanks for the details. I have been trying to identify a PSID 15 fault. The PSID is a proprietary SID code for VP. I called the dealer who reached out to VP and no one can tell me (or wants to tell me) what the code is. I believe I have it narrowed down to one of the four O2 sensors.
