That's so cool they give you a boat to use. I guess remove the engine would be the best way. Plastic welds not a fan of that. Taking the cap off. Yecks only if they send it to the factory for that. New boat? 2020 for the same price?

As noted in my other thread, the 'loaner' boat is now my boat so issue resolved. BTW, tank came 100% full. Absolutely no smell of gas in any of the compartments or in the engine bay. I checked. Carefully! And the boat was trailered about 90 minutes to get to my location so it got bounced around!

Like Matt said, boats don't have an EVAP system like modern cars, so your fuel does vent to atmosphere. Little fuel smell, especially after filling up or uncovering if your cover goes over the vents, is not uncommon.

If it was me I would make sure to run the blower before starting and at idle speed which you should be doing anyway. Go run it and enjoy a day on the water, get the gas to 3/4 a tank and then if you are still having issues I would call in service. It doesn't take much spilled gas to make a pretty strong smell that sticks around for awhile.

Thanks. I appreciate that the boat vents to atmosphere. Just wondering why it is venting to the storage compartments. As I wrote, it was filled to "F" just before delivery and there was no smell at first launch and any time after - just after the last fill. I'll guess we'll see what is causing it. If running it 3/4 tank or lower will solve the problem, I'm OK to do that for now, but ultimately I'd like to solve the problem as I'm interested in venturing farther from my beach community marina, so if I can't carry a full tank of gas, that will be a bit limiting.

I have the same issue but with mine being a 2005, I figured that it is old hoses and/or gaskets (I suspect sending unit?). I thought that I read in one of the Cobalt manuals that the tank should be filled to just 90% to allow for expansion and avoid fuel odors. Just spent 15 mins searching the Owner's manual and found one reference under Section IV - Operating Information Subsection Fueling that states: "10. Add fuel in accordance with the propulsion unit operator's manual. Do not overfill, and allow enough room for fuel expansion." Could not find any references in the Operation, Maintenance & Warranty Manual nor Service Manual #30 Section 5 Fuel Systems...at this point, I'm not sure where I read it but seems reasonable and I intend to try my best to adhere to 90% fuel fills.
