2020 Gen 5 V6 block pressure zero

Post by wheelnut »

Looking for help please, Have a 2020 Cobalt 200s with the Gen 5 V6 4.3 engine, Dash shows block pressure zero psi, have been searching for the sensor that everybody says is at the rear of the engine on the water hose but I believe they are talking about the generation before, as the Gen 5 has no such location. Chatting with dealers is turning out to be painful, contacted a dealer to order a sensor and they say the sensor is not in their system for that engine, so where does the dash get its info

So glad you found us wheelnut.

Sounds like you’re on the right track looking at replacing a sensor with a zero reading on the block pressure.

I’m familiar with the rear one on the hose in the Mercs as well having owned an earlier gen Merc. Have you done a Google search for the schematic for this gen?

And welcome aboard mate.

Thanks for the reply, yes have been searching up and down the internet for 3 days now and can't find any wiring diagrams for this Gen 5 engine. I have also looked close up at many photos and paused videos of the engine on a stand or at a show and can't see any sensors that stand out

Are you seeing this in the 4-1 gauge? Has it ever read correctly? I’m not sure non evc Volvos actually transmit that info to the gauge.

Per the owner's manual, p. 3-23, there is no water pressure sensor on the Volvo engines that year. It's mentioned under "Block Pressure."

Thanks, It is the 5'' gauge with the 2 buttons on the bottom, i will try to show a photo. Only had the boat a couple of weeks and it didn't show pressure when I got it, but something to putting the boat into limp mode

Thanks for the info, that's interesting, I wonder why the boat won't pull up onto plane, it only goes about 10 mph WOT with trim down

The speed also shows zero when on the water and while pushing hose water up the tube, would this cause LIMP mode ?

I didn't realize you could buy a Cobalt in 2020 that still had gauges.
