Re: R4 Surf Wave
Just got my 2024 R4 Surf this week. Have only tried the preset mellow and steep and we are all first time surfers. Mellow has been great for my kids (9 and 12) with 3 people (about 350 lbs) in the boat at about 11.1 mph for the younger and 11.4 for the older. I believe I can get a longer wave with more front ballast but haven’t experimented with it enough yet. Will share as I learn more but would love to hear any tips or advice others have.

Re: R4 Surf Wave
Any changes to the wave after more experimentation? I am picking up my 24 R4surf today. Going from a CS23 surf to an R4 surf and curious if you still use the present wave or have changed the trim etc. My kids are 7,11, and 13. Do you fill the ballast all the way or partially depending on age and size of surfer?

Re: R4 Surf Wave
I’ve definitely been playing with the ballast and speed, but not the trim. Re: the preset - I find that more ballast is needed in the bow and less in the stern to “stretch” the wave (it feels a bit steep). This is probably because most of our passengers are in the aft while surfing. Moving passengers to the bow helps a lot.
For younger/lighter/novice riders I’ve found that slower speeds are very helpful. My 9 yr old rides at around 10.4mph. My 12 yr has progressed quickly and he’s riding at just over 11mphs.
I am finding that for kids and teens, less ballast (especially in the rear) is better. I’m considering getting an extra ballast bag for the bow storage under the front cushion. It’s a perfect spot and it’s not frequently used space.

Re: R4 Surf Wave
Thank you. Just picked up the boat today and plan to get it in the water tomorrow and through the weekend. Excited to see how the kids do with the wave compared to the cs23. I can already tell the boat is bigger and will sit differently in the water just based on driving it home on the trailer.

Let us know how it goes! The only other wake boat I’ve surfed on is a Malibu. I wouldn’t say the R4S is better or worse but just different. The Malibu software definitely looks nice - especially the stereo auto volume adjustment that syncs with rpms.

Re: R4 Surf Wave
I’ll update for sure. Kids soccer this afternoon so hope to ride this evening. Had a hiccup this morning as soon as I put it in the water. Screen wouldn’t display ballast controls but my dealer was able to help over the phone and we got it figured out. How careful was everyone during the break in period? Do we need to surf for a short time and take a break to cruise then surf again?

Re: R4 Surf Wave
So after playing around for a day, the wave is substantially bigger than the CS23. I’m not sure how my CB of that is weight vs the surf gate rather than the tabs on our previous boat but it’s got much more push and height. It does take longer to form compared but we knew that coming in. There was a good bit of “wash” on the wave but we also had 6 adults and 4 kids on the boat will little weight in the bow. Once we shifted bodies to the bow and let out some ballast in the rear it cleaned up a lot. Will have to continue to play with that based upon who’s in the boat. On our cs23 we had to fill the ballast full and have people sit in the rear to get the push for adults to surf. That’s obviously not the case with this boat. The engine is 380 and I am glad we went with that. Plenty of power. The ride is amazing. Can’t say enough good about the ride! Will keep posted as we learn more about the wave.
