Hello From NC

Post by dvdkea »

Hello all. I'm new to the forum. I am a longtime fan of Cobalt boats, and I am in the process of looking for my first one. Specifically, a bow rider. So far, I am leaning towards the 282. probably mid 2000's-year range. I have always had MerCruiser motor/drive in the past and would prefer to stay with MerCruiser.

Looking for some insight on the 282 from current owners and also guidance about Cobalt in general.

Thank you in advance.

I can't speak specifically on the 282. However, I was a long time SeaRay owner and always thought my "next" boat would be another SeaRay. Well I moved my boat into dry storage at a Cobalt dealer and started seeing Cobalts on a regular basis. Long and short, a few years ago I started looking for a Cobalt - 242. Eventually I found one I liked, but it was an R5 and I bought it. The Cobalt with a Volvo Penta was new territory for me, but I could not be happier with the boat and power. I still think SeaRay is a good boat and I would say the Mercruiser/Volvo debate is a draw in my opinion - I would not let that dictate which boat I bought. I can't say I would never buy another SeaRay, but I am a Cobalt fan now.

So glad you found us dvd….

You may want to PM cmattj. He’s our 282 resident expert. Phenomenal machine with twin big blocks.
I would not consider this model with a single due to poor resale and limited maneuverability. Plus it’s under powered with a single big block.

Others will chime in.

And welcome aboard mate!
