Upholstery Replacement
Upholstery Replacement
I realize that this is very regional-specific, but what have people experienced for cost to replace upholstery? I'm looking at a 262 that hasn't been cared for cosmetically for a couple of years. It has sat open and exposed, and while it doesn't have cracked/torn upholstery yet, it probably will need to be replaced in the very near future. The boat is priced accordingly for the gelcoat and cleanliness, but I'm trying to calculate my purchase and restoration costs against typical resale. It's a 2003 262 with a new (block only) VP 8.1Gi with DP-SM drive and Captains Call exhaust.

Re: Upholstery Replacement
You're looking at $3k-$4k or so for a full re-upholstery, assuming the shop can use the old upholstery as a "template" for what they need to make. I've heard of people getting a boat done for $2k, but that's the exception I think. If you're creeping up toward 30', you can be well over $5k.
Keep in mind that foam may need to be replaced too, as it has a finite life and loses resilience over time. A good shop's bid should tell you things like foam density, vinyl weight, and other characteristics, etc. - it just doesn't make sense to skimp on materials for a project like this.
Heavier vinyl is usually, but not always, better - see https://www.marinevinylfabric.com/blogs ... rine-vinyl
and good vinyl will tell you lots about its construction, wear resistance, UV treatment, etc, like: https://www.omnova.com/detail-1-1?ai%5B ... egion=AMER

Re: Upholstery Replacement
I guess the East Coast is much cheaper than the West Coast. I've been quoted 10k-12k for a complete interior and that is for me to remove and reinstall all the pieces. A buddy just had the captain chairs redone and that alone was a little over 2k + the Sliderule kits. I wish I could find someone that will do it for 4k. The issue that I am running into is quality of work, it seems that there is no one out there that can produce Cobalt factory quality interior work. With Cobalt changing their ways with this buy out, the interior employees should open up shop. I would not bat an eye to send all my interior to them to have it done right. They'd make a killing. I personally would get quotes before making an offer. Keep in mind that if it has the swivel Captains chairs guarantee the plastic bottoms are broken and will need the Sliderule Racing kits, another 450 + labor. Then you have carpet on top of that, I just spent 725 at Corinthians for new carpets.

I just had the entire bow, the lower section of the rear horseshoe (anything your butt goes on) and the sun platforms done on my 05 262. It was $5800. We spent a lot of time working to make sure the vinyl matched really well. I'm in Northern Illinois.

So glad you found us Aewillis. The 262 is an amazing machine. Upholstery replacement can be a challenge especially with the side gunwales but hopefully the installer you find in the area can handle that. It’s well worth the upgrade as this is the one major issue of older 262’s. Most other items on the 262 can be sourced.
Any pics? How is she powered?
And welcome aboard mate.
