Water in the bilge - leaking valve on the bottom of engine (VP350)?

Post by atlandrew »

The last few times we have been out, I noticed the bilge pump would come on automatically and when I checked today, it looks like the valve (?) at the bottom/front of the engine is leaking. Maybe it cracked somehow?

This is a 2020 R5 with the Vovlo 350.

I attached a couple of photos here. What does this part do? Can I replace it as DIY?

The part number stamped on it is 22494462. I googled it but didn’t come up with much other than eBay sellers with used parts.

Thanks for the help!

One more photo to better show the location on the front of the engine.

This is the easy drain manifold. It may most likely not be shutting off completely. Perhaps sand or debris are blocking the drain passage ways. Have you used the the easy drain before? If not, depress the plunger and maybe the water that is in the system will flush it out. Possibly too it could be a loose water hose connection on the backend of it.

There are a number of hoses that connect on the back side - hopefully tightening one of these up will fix the leak. If it's cracked or broken, it's not a terribly expensive or difficult part to replace

Thanks for the info/tips.

I did inspect the hoses on the back side and they don't seem to be the source of the leak. I saw that they are all fitted with compression/crimp fittings (like a PEX crimp style fitting), not the typical/adjustable hose clamp.

I have used the easy drain every year as part of winterization and will try using it again to see if it's some sand or debris that is the issue. 🤞

Stick a cell phone down there and take a video while it's leaking to see if you can identify where it's coming from.

I went to the boat and did some further investigating today. It appears to be leaking out of one of the drain holes in the valve.

I did open/close the easy drain system (engine off) a few times and tried to clean out the drain holes. I didn’t find any debris or other issues. Still leaking after doing that.

I did take a video here:
