Tilt Up on Switch Not working - 8.1 GX-i

Post by Canterbury »

Hi All,

Have an VP 8.1 GX-i on a 2008 220, the outdrive is a DPS-A. Issues with the tilt switch on the controller. Searched the site but was unable to track down any specifics for older VP's.

The problem is only on the Up side of the toggle that works intermittently. Placing pressure on bow side of the Up switch can raise the motor, but this is hit or miss and never consistently works. The Down side works first time, every time.

Any one have similar issues? Had to replace the switch or work on the connectors? I didnt want to take off everything first without at least asking the question. Once apart, things never go back together exactly the same way. Part numbers of replacement? I did see a reference to Sea-Star being the maker of the controller on another thread.

On a related question, how about the transom controller for this generation VP? I saw people have installed them on other VP's but seemed to be year/generation specific. This would bypass my controller issue and also allow me to control the tilt/trim without having to remove the cover.

Thanks as always for the help.

VP upgraders? Maybe my question should center on - Has anyone installed a transom trim switch on a VP? Plug and play? Where connection is placed?

I did mine, used a T harness I got on ebay. You break the connection at the back of the motor. It's the pump wire harness that comes through the transom.
