window latch

Post by tyson904 »

Hello all, while driving down he lake, I noticed my plastic black piece came off my window latch.

Anyone know if I can just purchase the black piece or the diameter and length

You can definitely DIY this! If the black plastic piece is missing, you have a few options:

Replacement from Cobalt: First, check with Cobalt or a dealer to see if they sell just the plastic part. If they don't, no worries!

DIY Fix: Measure the metal pin’s diameter and length where the plastic was. Then, head to a hardware store or online and find a rubber or plastic cap that fits snugly. You can even use heat-shrink tubing as a temporary solution. Just cut a piece, slip it over the metal, and heat it up until it fits tightly.

Custom Solution: If you want something more permanent, consider using epoxy or plastic putty to mold a new cap. Shape it around the metal pin, let it cure, and you're good to go.

Just replaced our latch this summer but I needed the spring loaded assembly that’s mounted on the boat. There was not an option to purchase them individually. You may want to go with the diy solution.

Thanks so much for the Reply.

I have contacted the Dealer and the Window Latch is around $100 shipped.

I also found out TacoMarine is the supplier for those latches. I contacted Tacomarine and John was very helpful he told me to grab some calipers and measure. I also found the dimension online. just need to find the width for the latch part which I believe is 3/8.

I have looked extensively online for 1in x 1/4 x 3/8 nylon spacers. but could not find anything with those dimensions. However John told me to use Plex Tubing. I did find Plex tubing comes in those dimensions which I can get at the hardware store.

I am going to try the DIY first, thinking $10 to fix is better than $100 for the time being unless this all fails.

Any thoughts. I Attached the measurements of the Walk Thru Window latch.

I bought the whole assembly earlier in the summer from Great Lakes Skipper. I think it was in the $40.00 range. Mine fell apart and the spring came out. I couldn't figure out how to put it back together as it looked like a retaining ring was missing.
