Steering Wheel update: Gussi Italia Model 933

Post by snapshotgt »

Hi all --

The Gussi Italia model 933 with the cobalt center cap seems to be a popular steering wheel update for older boats (currently restoring a 2000 226). Unfortunately I have not been able to locate one.. eBay seem and Great Lakes Skipper seem to be popular places to buy from but unable to locate at either place.

Any recommendations?

Try this site. They have a phone number, and e-mail address for contact. They surely know where to find one, or something similar.

Good point, I didn't contact them after seeing their FAQ (below), but will give it a shot no matter!

Q: Can I buy a steering wheel direct from Syntec?
A: No. However, you can purchase a Gussi Italia® wheel directly from your boat manufacturer.

Shoot, bummer. I didn't see that, or I wouldn't have bothered posting the link. I hate it when vendors/companies do that, and won't sell directly to consumer.

Hi, all! I’m also looking to replace the steering wheel on my 2008 Cobalt 222.

I found an Isotta Argo steering wheel (link below) that seems pretty close to the Gussi Italia model 933 y’all are referencing. Anyone have any experience with this manufacturer and/or model?
https://www.hardin-marine.com/p-110387- ... wheel.aspx

Also not sure where I can get a replacement center cap as mine is worn. I’ve searched all over the internet and haven’t had any luck at all. Will that need to come directly from a Cobalt dealer?

Thanks in advance for any support!

@AsLan7 Thanks for the warm welcome! Here's a snapshot of my dash with the current (aged) steering wheel.

Over the holiday, I was actually able to find a used Gussi Italia for $100 shipped (picture below). Should show up later this week. It's not the brushed silver version... it's actually more of a bronze color. I was going to go with the silver to match the rest of the boat, but since all the other silver is chrome/polished, the brushed silver wouldn't be a perfect match anyway.

Hopefully the bronze goes well with the rest of the brown interior. That dumb black rubber flooring (installed by previous owner) has since been pulled out. I'm going with brown SeaDek to keep with the rest of the color scheme - and hopefully not be as hot as that black rubber!

Thanks for the help!

Got the new steering wheel installed - looks way better IMO. There are lots of different browns throughout the boat, and I think it plays off that nicely.

Still gonna try and get the self-leveling Cobalt center cap, but for now I've got to get back to flooring removal. As you can see from the pictures, I'm in the process of removing the PO's black flooring and upgrading to Sea-Dek.
