2024 CS22

Post by SkiFilly »

Hi, we're considering purchasing a 2024 Cobalt CS22 with a 250HP Volvo engine. Will this have enough power to comfortably pull a slalom skier out of the water, or is this is underpowered if we will be doing occasional waterskiing?

Hey so glad you found us SF...

250HP will be fine for ya' SF. The prop pitch will be the key to pulling skier's and tubers up. Most likely need a 19pitch for that engine depending on the prop(s) set up. Your wide open throttle rpm's will help diagnose if it is under or oversized. You can always go down a size pitch and sacrifice top end speed if you feel it's not pulling folks up easy enough.

And welcome aboard mate!

Factors like time-to-plane are often more telling than peak HP, and some Volvos that size come with dual props which also helps. I agree with Aslan that the 250HP 4.3L should be plenty to lift a skier out of the water quickly with that boat.

Here's another thread where people discuss different engines (including the 250hp DP) for that boat:
