R6 Surf wave feedback

Post by tfarmer »

Just wanted to share some feedback I have received from several people who do a lot of surfing that have now surfed behind my boat. Everyone has said the same thing, “that wave has a lot of push”. They also have been amazed at how tall the wave is. My good friend last weekend said he thought these new Cobalt Surf boats should be game changers in the industry for anyone looking to have the best of both worlds, a boat you can surf behind with a world class wave and a boat you won’t be afraid to run up and down the lake in.

I’m still playing around with the settings but so far it seems that having the tank full on the back left (for surf left surfers), back right 1/2 full and front tank 1/2 full seems to work best for us. I’ve been playing around with the speed settings between 10.8-11.2. I might go a tad faster this weekend to reduce a tad bit of height and to add a little length to the wave.

I must say I’m getting a lot of stares from the Mastercraft and Nautique guys!

Nice, thanks for the update.
Any thoughts on how that wave compares to the the previous R5/R7 Surf waves?
Interesting on the 1/2 full tanks, I might have to try that.

If those Mastercraft and Nautique guys are like me, they're staring at every boat.
When my wife thinks I'm looking a the girls, and can give her every detail of the boat and then she's ok.

We’ve had a lot of other surf boat owners surfing behind our R5 these last two weeks and they all comment on both the height of the wave and how long it is. My daughter and her friend mastered the tandem surfing over the weekend and can both easily stay in the wave with no ropes. We also stay in that 10.8-11.1 mph depending on how many people are in the boat. This weekend we are going to try them in the wave as a tandem with my son on the hydrofoil another 25+ feet behind them.

I have a buddy very close to us on the lake with and R6 but I haven’t seen an R6 Surf yet in person.

That’s amazing. Something for me and my son in law to try. Coolest thing I saw last weekend was two surf boats running parallel with one another. The boat on the left had his wave setup for surf right and the boat on the right had his setup for surf left. This essentially created a large bowl and the surfer was going back and forth behind each boat.

Love it! This is something I need to do ASAP! Our two oldest have several friends on the lake with surf boats including a neighbor 5 house down from us and I’m guessing it would be pretty easy to do.

Old thread sorry. Trying to make a long tall wave with a lot of push. Have been playing with the R6 wave. What setting controls what part of the wave? Is the below correct?
Ballets tanks - wave height
Trim - how steep the wave is
Speed - wave length
What have people found to be the longest tallest wave
That is not super steep?
Thanks

We have an R8S, not sure if these settings are best but typically just select the largest wave option in Garmin and set at 11.3. Seems to make everyone happy

I had a couple of Malibu boats and your general descriptions above are accurate. One way we’d lengthen and even clean up the wave was by adding bow weight (people or bags).
