2001 Cobalt 246 Questions

Post by boater2018 »

I just purchased my first Cobalt, a 2001 246, 7.4 Merc, and absolutely love the layout. I have 3 questions:

1. The rod for the engine hatch prop seems too long by a couple of inches to prop it on the ledge behind the rear bench seat and will not tilt to prop it on the side of the engine hatch ledge. Mine has the hydraulic lift and I also don't see a place to add hydraulic fluid, but it does have a zerk that I assume takes regular marine grease? Anyway, I ended up making 2 questions out of this one. So, can you lift the hatch higher, forcefully, to set the prop on the ledge behind the rear seat? Is there a release for the hydraulic lift?

2. As mentioned above, do you just grease the hydraulic lift at the zerk once a season? It doesn't appear to have a hydraulic fluid reservoir that I can locate.

3. Does anyone have a wiring schematic for this model?

Thank you!

So glad you found us, B2018…

Yes, lift the hatch higher manually and use the prop rod. It’s meant to get the hatch higher so you can service the engine compartment easier.

The hatch rams run off the trim reservoir pump. Power steering fluid works for that reservoir. Keep the prop rod in and then lower the rams electrically. Top off the reservoir between the lines. (If you do this with the rams raised you will have a mess when you lower them as the fluid blows out).

Keep us posted.

And welcome aboard mate.
