Fish Finder on a 220

Post by Homeskillet »

Anyone have any suggestions for where to mount a locator/fishfinder on a 2005 220 ?

I really want to get back into some fishing. I know I know.... most will want to steal my Cobalt Card. But I used to spend a lot of time with a line in the water until we grabbed this 220. I love the boat. We have it fixed up nice and dialed IN. I don't want to sell it and buy another fishing boat just yet. But I could used a good fish finder to up by game.

I'm thinking about a 7 inch unit in a ice fishing package so I can take the transducer off and on depending on what the day is going to look like. But there is not a lot of space at the helm for permanently mounting a unit (or at least I have not figure it out yet hence my post)

I'll add this just for context not sympathy, I did get a cancer diagnosis on 12/1 - adenocarcinoma, tumor at the head of my pancreas, stage 3, buried in vessels- veins arteries and nerves wrapped around it and fused to it so tough whipple surgery coming down the pike - I've had 6 infusion and another coming next Tuesday, then a scan to see if chemo is shrinking my tumor. So my time may be limited and I want to spend it doing some of the things I love. Fishing being one of them. And mama loves hanging in the 220 quite a bit too.... that's primarily why I want to keep the 220. I feel like I can make a modification or two to meet my wants without taking away all that mama loves. She could hang in a nice Ranger with me. But not like in the 220

Any thoughts on a location for a locator would be helpful

Thanks!!

Many of us have found a place to mount a chartplotter or sonar that wouldn't fit in the dash using a RAM mount - see these threads for an example:

Pulled my cover in the garage yesterday and spent about 30 minutes trying to figure out where to mount one. I've decided I'm NOT going to do that. There's just no good place to put a 7" screen without detracting from the fit and finish of such a nice boat. A 5" might go "okay" in a couple of spots but if I'm adding a graph, I want at least a 7. I think if I am able to fish like I want to in the future, I will Jerry-rig one of the ice fishing models in such a way that I can easily/quickly set it up/take it down. I'm not running anything permanently.

Appreciate the pix and suggestions folks!
