Guess my service Bill: “How Much”

Post by 282Captain »

Ok gang, just got my boat from Cobalt dealer service. 2006 282 with twin 496mag HO’s. I usually do my own service, but this year, thought I would let the dealer look it over and do the usual annual maintenance:

* oil & filters change
* lower units serviced
* fuel filters
* couple trim relays replaced
* one drive had a bad gimble bearing needing replaced

Feel free to just estimate the oil, filter, and fuel filter service. I’m shocked! Reminded why I do my own maintenance.

Dang it! I forgot to follow up. My bill was $6,100. I was shocked.
* oil & filters changed (x2)
* lower units serviced (x2)
* impellers replaced (x2)
* gimble on one of the drives replaced
* trim relays replaced to fix trim shorting out

I guess when you think a couple thousand should cover it and your bill is $6,100……you have to vent to someone.

Anyway, on the water for 2026 and living the dream.

Insane. That's like California pricing (ask me how I know).

It’s the same crazy service prices here in Naples as well. The MarineMax here charges $225/hr labor rate. An oil change with lower unit lube on a 300 Merc V8 outboard is $800 per engine and I have triples on mine. They don’t do my service work, lol.
