Boat Lift Setup
Boat Lift Setup
Recently purchased a lake house with a dock and lift. I had "a dock guy" come out and make sure the lift was setup for my Cobalt R5 correctly. He wanted to adjust the bunks and move the lift further in. This is what it looks like after the adjustment. The boat is as far in the slip as possible. Should I worry about structural issues with the back hanging of the bunks this far?

Re: Boat Lift Setup
As long as the boat seems to sit level I personally wouldn't worry about that. Others may have a different opinion.

Re: Boat Lift Setup
I’d check with your dock tech to be sure. That much overhang can stress the bunks and hull over time, even if it sits level.
Re: Boat Lift Setup
In my experience, as long as the boat sits level and is supported evenly near the transom, a few inches of overhang is not a structural problem. For extra peace of mind, I use a piece of nylon rope for sale from American Rope to tie fenders off the back, protecting the hull from bumping the dock. Their marine-grade nylon holds up well in the sun and water, and I have found it reliable for securing gear on my own lift.
