Update

Post by Skiingstrongman »

Hey Guys! it's been a busy summer here so I've been an absentee. The short story is that I ended up with a new to me 2010 230. Mercruiser 350 MAG. Guy had young kids that were really into wakeboarding. With myself and my girlfriend in school I had a hard time justifying the payments at the moment so I felt right now the smart play was to hop on this. The boat is really clean, has a nice tower with a bunch of goodies (tower speakers with LEDS, interior LEDs and swim platform LEDs, docking lights, and bow insert cushions. I have a few plans for upgrades and I'll still be in it just under half of what I was looking at for a new boat. This will suit us nicely for a while until we finish up school and our schedules calm down a bit. I'll post up some pictures next weekend when we go out for the weekend.

My short list of upgrades is to get rid of the carpet and install snap in Sea Dek with the teak look to it. The marina sells a lot of nautiques and it looks really sharp and cleans up nicely. Then I'm going to upgrade the stereo system. Other than that it doesn't need a whole lot. I'm really happy with it.

Thanks for all the help here

I've really become lukewarm on carpet in boats - it just doesn't seem ideal for a wet environment. I don't know that I've ever seen snap-in Sea Dek - should be pretty interesting. I know bigblock and I at least would love to see photos when you get a chance; it sounds like a great boat!

Check out Marine Mat they have the snap in option listed on their site. I mentioned it to the dealer and he said Sea Dek is superior and that they make it. I'm going to send in the old carpets as a template. The one thing he did recommend was that I don't have them put the snaps in. He recommended getting the snaps and a gun and doing it myself with the mat laid in the boat.

Here's a few pictures I have on hand from before purchase. Boat is a little dirty from being used up until the previous owner got his new one but it just needs a good detail. No actual marks on upholstery or gel coat.

Very nice. Don't rule out teak sea grass for carpet. Made by infinity. Great stuff. John has it In his boat. I'm still debating on what to do. I have a cool upgrade coming on Sunday for mine. Correct don't put the snaps in. Also you may want that mat made a hair larger in case the carpet shrunk. That's why he told you not to put the snaps in. You going to save your carpet?
Congrats :-)

Seagrass doesn't hold water (or sand) the way some carpet does, which is the main reason I opted for seagrass.

I'm waiting for boat show season so I can talk to the sea dek guys in person. My dealer sells cobalt and ski nautique both of which use the sea dek so they work closely with the company and they are the ones that said sea dek is now doing the snap in. I just haven't seen it online only from a different manufacturer. Also now that cobalt has gone with JL I will definitely be using that for the upgrade since it should help resale quite nicely.

I got out skiing for the first time last weekend and it was the first time I was able to see the boat on the water and I really like the red/black combination looks really sharp. I'm really happy with it. The engine compartment is CLEAN that's actually the thing people are most impressed with when I'm showing them around. I'll try to get pictures this weekend when we go out. I'm not much of a picture guy I try to put my phone out of site out of mind when I'm out so I always forget.

John, who is the manufacturer for the sea grass? Is it infinity or sisal? I'm leaning going that way, Infinity has the faux teak option. The Marine Mat isn't quite large enough to install with only the current snaps in place without adding additional snaps and I don't want to change anything on there and I don't want to be committed to the stick on Sea Dek because it's a nightmare to clean up if I ever reverse.

Infinity I believe is. I'm sending them all my carpet pieces and they will cut and bind it. I just have to put the snaps on it.I'm going with this. They have a 1/8 &1/4 option I think I'm going with the thicker. John ski you know how thick yours is. This is not the piece I'm choosing I need more material than this picture.. Boat carpet sales sells it on eBay. Good customer service so far.

No way my "factory" seagrass is 1/4 inch thick. It's definitely thinner than that.

Have you seen any samples yet? I'm curious on the texture of it. I've seen seagrass at the dealer but it looks like the teak is a bit different.
