Freeboard, weight, and bow height differences (2008 252)

Post by MIboater »

Hi all,

We just purchased a 2008 252, which in 2009 got renamed to the 262. Same dimensions and specs. At 5,425 weight, and with 375 8.1 engine, it's a heft boat indeed. That said, the 272 in 2008 weighs less despite being longer. Any idea why? Is it because the 252 has a higher freeboard?

Lastly, does anyone know the details on bow heights? Is the bow height on the 2008 252 higher than the sleeker looking 272?

Thanks!

Yes I would say just the pure design of the boat is why. My 222 is much heavier than my 220.

Here ya go!

Would love your thoughts on weight and bow height differences. We're on a lake which does kick up every so often and hoping the 262 will run well and smoothly (paired with VP 8.1 375hp)

That's is a beautiful combo. and paired with Tabs too.. !!! You will find that most guest like to gather on one side or the other and having "Tabs" work magic on the level ride.

That's a beautiful boat. I also appreciate your question, as I've wondered the same thing from time to time. I have a 2003 240 as well as a 2001 262. Last year a 2012 242 tied up alongside of our 240. It was interesting to swim off and look at the two boats side by side. It was hard to believe they were both Cobalt in the 240 series. Totally different shape, freeboard and bow height. My boat seemed longer and sleeker but the 2012 model seemed more stylish?

Another blue Angel has landed. Looks sharp. Yes it's amazing the difference in freeboard between models. I think that's why I like my 220 over the 222 is it looks sleeker and yes faster :-)-sorry Nauti :-)

All good BB! Not hating on the 220! You win in the race and as much as I love going fast, we can get some rough water and it's super nice to not have to be in and out of the throttle to keep from beating up all the passengers while we cruise the lake!

My wife does think the 222 was better in the rough water though. Myself well not sure on that one.
