Trim Inop.

Post by MAP53 »

I got my new to me 212 home yesterday. The outside temp was about 15. Unfortunately the boat is too tall to go in the garage until I put a taller door in. I am storing it in a carport for now.

The drive was up for towing. I went to lower it and it doesn't work. I think the batteries are up enough I have 11.5 volts showing on the both position. When I raise the engine cover and actuate the trim switch I can hear a click form the back both up and down but the motor does not run. It might just be that it's too cold.

I am going to put a fresh hot battery in today and I have a radiant heater that I can point toward the drive and see what happens. Anybody have any experience with this issue?

Thanks

My old Chaparral had the same issue. It was in the switch and an easy fix.
Your issue might be directly coming from the cold where the switches may not be making full contact.

Might be a solenoid involved, which is another easy fix.

Put a Jump box on it.

Hydraulic pump systems under load will drop below threshold of 10.5 volts and sometimes go backwards. or wont engage at all. Example 11.6 volts will drop more due to weak CCA holding in battery.

I need to get those batteries out and put them inside on the battery tender anyway. I have a new battery from one of my old cars I can put in the boat for now. It's been on the tender since October. I'm going to try to get the voltage up first and put some heat back there to thaw things out . It's still only 19, too cold to be out messing with a boat if you ask me.

I would wait till it warms up then put battery in. No use battling the cold when we always get warm spells every couple weeks (I think u r in kty)

Problem solved. I finally got the boat in by letting all the air out of the trailer tires. Pointed a radiant heater towards the top of the drive and went away for a couple of hours. Trim worked fine even without putting a new battery in. I guess the cold made it mad. Anyway I got the drive down and the boat is all tucked away until spring.

Hey, nice job Map53. Sorry... missed your sentence about "switch in both" position.
In any event, glad to hear it all worked out. Gotta love those radiant heaters!
