Upholstery Cleaner

Post by MAP53 »

Once more I'm seeking advice. My new to me 212 is 10 years old and in good shape however yesterday as I was removing the batteries I was looking closely at the upholstery. It is kind of dingy with signs of dirt down in the grain of the vinyl. I am going to have to give it a thorough cleaning and was wondering what everybody uses to clean and then protect their vinyl?

Also on a different but related note everywhere inside the compartments and especially the engine compartment/ bilge is dirty with signs of mold and or mildew. Its going to take some serious elbow grease to get it back to looking like new. What is the cleaner of choice for the areas inside all the compartments and engine bay/bilge?

The folks that had this boat took good care of it in a general sense but I want to bring it back to the look it deserves. It will clean up just like new and that's what I'm shooting for.

Thanks in advance

I have found that Star Brite Mold and Mildew cleaner works the best. Spray it on and let it set for a few minutes, then wipe and scrub. Not much scrubbing needed.

Follow up with Vinyl Sauce (from Boat Bling) Bio Clean, 3M or Adams Upholstery Conditioner. I have an older boat so I'm pretty diligent about keeping the upholstery clean and conditioned, especially the sunpad.

There's a thread down there ⬇️ (Maintenance and Storage) that goes into what we all use and is a pretty good read.

I prefer the mold and dirty look so I don't use anything and just let it sit out all year uncovered :-)

I use biokleen Amazing cleaner and a soft bristle brush and a tooth brush I the seams. Then conditioner.
The bilge I have had great luck with this cleaner.
If you want before and after pictures I'm sure I have them.

Cleaner, The best that i have found is the Mr. Clean magic eraser pads with scrubbing bubbles spray on cleaner. Keep your eraser pads wet. Finish up with 303 Aerospace protectant.

Also on the bilge Hot water and vinegar. Let the solution set for a couple of minutes and then drain. Smells fresh also.

I'm with you on that cleaning product name :-)

Magic Erasers are harsh on the vinyl. I can't imagine scrubbing bubbles are very nice either.
That's my opinion.

Pot the Jus, I had a 2002 246 for 14 years and that's what I used plus the 303 protectant . The guy I sold the boat to asked me when and where I had the vinyl replaced. I told him that was the original vinyl.
Just saying it worked for me. I only had to use the scrubbing bubbles on the places that got really dirty and Used the Magic erasers with a lot of water once a year and applied the 303 twice sometimes three times depending on the use of the boat.

I was a bit skeptical, but we tried biokleen amazing cleaner last year...and it really is amazing. Took off a ton of the grime on the underside of our seats.

I need to try some 303 product. So far for conditioning upholstery I've used;

Adams Conditioner
Conditioner Sauce
Maguire Vinyl Conditioner.

Has anyone tried these along with 303 and picked a favorite or found one better than tbe other? So far I'm leaning towards Adams, but I need to buy some 303 and give it a try.

Driller where do you get it?

Yes I used to use that on my donzi but if I looked close I could see what it did to the vinyl. Just becareful is all I'm saying. Everyone of us use something diff. It's all what you like in the end.

Yt alot of people use 303 products and love them. I've never used them either.
