That top deck has some big time shine and the teak is beautiful. I'm not looking forward to doing my teak it is mostly weathered or water stained,I'm not sure just how to work with it,I've heard it is kind of temperamental.

This is not really the place to start this but, since you asked.... Using my iPhone7. Some pics are from files. I've posted 3 and it inserted 5, 2 pics twice, they've been inserted in the wrong order. Normally I would take the blame and say it's Pilot Error but I belong to 2 other boat forums and one Ford Truck forum so I have some experience with it. Never had these kinds of problems. I'll let it go at that. If I can't deal with it I guess I can just go away.Big Block Power wrote: Thu Mar 08, 2018 5:57 am Very nice job. Not sure what issues you are having with your pictures? I had issues years ago was frustrated then John did some size changes and I turn my phone in my hand like a land scape picture then no more issues. I also turn down the pixels on my phone to. What are you using to take the pictures? And if you click the attachment tab and the the add button you can do that three times per post. It's really only two clicks and your done. Other than the other night when it loaded two pictures Ast the same time it's been pretty good for myself.

I don't know yet. I'm toying with it. I have 2 vinyl stickers that are just the word "Cobalt" and only 6 1/2" x 1" tall but they are in silver. I do have the Cobalt wreath on the instrument panel and I had it embroidered in a couple of panels in the new upholstery.AsLan7 wrote: Thu Mar 08, 2018 6:38 am Curious if you are going to add the Cobalt moniker to the stern on the port and starboard sides, Shawn?![]()
I'm kind of torn. I don't think I like the silver but I do like how subtle the 6" Cobalt is. Maybe I'll have it made in the beige matching the top deck.
What do you think?

What does the original stye lettering look like? I thought it was beige vinyl.
Btw, do you have the SILVER (not gold) lined vintage style flag that points downward like the older Cobalts used to display? They were also used on Correct Craft as well as Donzis Here is a ample of one... .

Re: New Member & My CM23
I've found working with teak is fairly easy. ALL of the teak on this boat, and there is a s**tload, was in very bad shape. The swim platform was so weathered that I ran all the pieces through a surface planer to get it all to the same thickness and get out the waves.hoghead54 wrote: Thu Mar 08, 2018 9:05 am That top deck has some big time shine and the teak is beautiful. All of your stained and weathered teak will come back. The thing to remember about teak is that it has a lot of natural oil in the wood. I never liked using teak cleaners as the acids remove the soft fiber between the grain. I used to oil all the teak on this boat but it had to be done 4 times a year and I hated it. You can recover all the trim pieces on your boat. Make sure you have a good random/orbital sander. I use a Craftsman 5" round with Velcro backed discs. Teak sand dust can be a bit hard on the sinuses so my sander has the holes in the disc and I attach my shop vac to the sander when using. For badly weathered teak I start with an #80 grit, go to a #120 and finish with #220. How you finish is up to you and the exposure it will receive. Some just like oil, some like high gloss varnish. I prefer more of a satin/semi-gloss finish and I've tried a lot of brands. This time I have been very pleased with this product. I am using 4 coats. I buy it at Lowe's, its reasonably priced, self leveling (no brush marks) and you can re-coat in a couple of hours. Here is a close up of the deck boards. If you need some more assistance let me know. I may start a thread on refinishing teak.

Re: New Member & My CM23
Here is what the boat looked like originally. This is a scan from the 1985 brochure. But remember, I now have that stripe running around the boat and the stripe is gold leaf. It had the chrome plaques but they are long gone. If I do something it will be small and very subtle. The word Cobalt or the wreath and probably near the stern and below the stripe.AsLan7 wrote: Thu Mar 08, 2018 9:29 am.nolaboater99 wrote: Thu Mar 08, 2018 9:22 amI don't know yet. I'm toying with it. Ahhh, roger that.
I was thinking it looked something like the pic below.
In any event, I think people want to know what they are viewing when they see it in or out of the water. Would be nice to have some kind of Cobalt moniker. Wouldn't want to ruin your lines though.

Re: New Member & My CM23
NOTICE REGARDING PHOTO ATTACHMENTS - it's messed up in this release of our forum software, and will be fixed in the next month or two; it's not anything you (or I) are doing or can easily do anything about. We could revert to the prior version, but that would break other things so my inclination is to leave things as they are for now. Sorry 'bout that.

Regarding teak finishing, I've had good luck with Penofin products (their hardwood and blue label formulas, although they have a marine-smecific one too): http://www.penofin.com/wood-stains/index
Note they aren't a sealer like a spar polyurethane - they're more an oil replacement to protect unfinished wood or bring it back to life.

That is good info. it's great to talk to some one that has been there, done that. I'll look for the minwax around here,no Lowes but a Home Depot.nolaboater99 wrote: Thu Mar 08, 2018 9:54 amI've found working with teak is fairly easy.
