Cobalt tool kit
Just ordering a new CS22 and going through the options list. I see the official Cobalt tool kit... Is it worth the $80? For past boats, I always put together a soft-side bag with a selection of tools, but wondered if the Cobalt kit is either extremely cool (walnut box, stainless steel tools and a corkscrew?) or a good starting point for a bigger kit? Thoughts?

Re: Cobalt tool kit
I’ve always had the Cobalt tool kit. Sometimes it comes in handy for quick access to a screwdriver or pliers.
Other than that, IMHO it’s really not that useful when you carry everything in the soft sided bag.

Also, I see you’re from upstate NY. Some beautiful boating up that way.
So glad you found us here. Would love to see some pics if you’v got time to post. We love introduction threads.
Once again, Welcome Aboard Mate.

Re: Cobalt tool kit
Welcome from Oklahoma! You might want to go in the new members section and introduce yourself and include pictures when you get your new boat. Some folks have found that handy when they try to go back and reference in the future.
Oh yeah, 80 bucks for the Kobalt tool kit doesn't do you any good. You can build your own kit and a soft-sided bag and be a way ahead of the game!

Re: Cobalt tool kit
Ours has the "toolkit" - it may have changed on the newer boats - but on our 2007 its a couple screwdrivers and a pair of pliers. It also includes a piece of plastic that snaps on the underside of the ski locker door to hold the tools.
Of course after a day on the water /w Katie driving the tools are always in the bottom of the ski locker. Could be that the plastic "holder" sucks, could be that Katie tends to place the throttle at WOT and leave it there....actually the plastic tool holder blows and Katie is a better boat captain than I am I just like to take the opportunity to tease the wife.
In short - no it's not worth the $80 unless you just really need a screw driver that says cobalt on it. Look in the maintenance section there was a long thread about what to keep in a tool kit at the lake. Spend the $80 on that stuff instead.

Go to Lowe’s, spend a hundred, and have the tools to fix anything..

Re: Cobalt tool kit
Sounds like my tool kit will say Kobalt (Lowe's brand...) instead of Cobalt
Thanks for the replies, just didn't want to pass on the Cobalt tools if they were super-cool!

Re: Cobalt tool kit
Here's what I carry....from West Marine. Website says they go for about $60. I got mine for $5 many years ago as part of a promotion. Not the best tools, but for $5, it covers about 90% of what I could do on the water. Heck at $5, it's disposable. I also use our foodsaver machine to make a watertight bag. Through in a couple of silica gel packs and seal it up. No moisture, no rust and even though the case closes very well, no accidental emptying underway.
Here' what's actually in it
Seven 3/8" drive sockets (3/8", 7/16", 1/2", 9/16", 5/8", 11/16", 3/4")
Seven metric sockets (10, 12, 13, 14, 16, 17, 19mm)
3/8" drive x 6" extension
3/8" drive universal joint
Two 3/8" drive spark plug sockets (13/16", 5/8")
3/8" drive ratchet handle
Utility knife with rubber grip
Roll (3/4" x 30') electrical tape
Spark plug gap gauge
8" adjustable wrench
10" groove joint pliers
3" long nose pliers
Stainless steel wire brush
Tire gauge
Electrical tester (6-12-24V)
#2 x 4" Phillips screwdriver
1/4" x 4" slotted screwdriver
6 wrist lanyards
75”H x 13.5”W x 10.6”D waterproof storage case with sealing gasket

A spark plug gauge
And
Electrical tester.
Need to add those. Thanks S55!
