That's pretty much the same around here. Letters must contrast. I think they even might say block letters. I don't think they care as long as they can see and read them.

He told me they don’t care if they are flat or raised like these domed letters are as long as they are easy to read. No cursive or super fancy fonts, and don’t use light colored letters on a light hull or dark on a dark hull because there has to be good contrast. Here’s a link to the Utah DNR official guide, nothing in it says “flat”.

Hmmm......interesting, I didn't ask anyone I was just reading the poster they had. That's good to know for when the time comes to put on the new letters. My boat in a earlier life lived at Timp harbor boat club in American Fork.

Previous owner of my last boat put some on that blended in with the color of the hull. Ran it that way for 4 seasons and never got stopped. But then I didn't drink or act like a jackwagon either. 😁

I live in Lehi, you know how Utah works. They hand them the book of rules and tell them good luck. Each ranger is different. I just keep a copy of the Utah rules page and ask them to show me where it says I am not following the rules. So far it has only ended up being warnings. I did have to call on the ranger at Willard. He was sure that my old single axle weighed more than 750 because my boat was a 20'. Luckily I had a copy of the origin title that had the weight on it with me. Sometimes the power trips here are amazing!

Here is AZ requirements, not that it's relevant to anything here...
The AZ number shall be painted on or attached to each side of the forward half of your watercraft. It shall read from left to right, be in block letters not less than three inches high, and be of a color that contrasts with the color of the hull. It shall be the only number on the forward half of your boat and should be clearly visible from 100 feet away during daylight hours. The letters AZ and the suffix shall be separated from the numerals by a hyphen or equivalent space.

If/when we end up putting a Powell meetup together, how much longer would it take you Utah guys to get to Wahweap vs Bullfrog? I just looked from Phoenix and Wahweap is about 4.5 hours, Bullfrog is 7.5 hours. Yikes.

AJ, coming back to your comment...sounds like there are at least 3 of us who are relatively local to Powell, so I'm assuming at least 3 boats.

I'd be interested in a Powell trip for it comes to be. Wahweap vs Bullfrog is 6's for me. What's everyone thinking on doing there? Cruising, sight seeing, pulling toys/people?

From my house I can make Wahweap in 6 hours, or Bullfrog in 5 hours. I kind of grew up on Lake Powell, but my wife has never seen it. Going to fix that this year with at least a couple trips.

Re-reading this thread there's actually 3 of you guys from UT and me from AZ. How cool would that be if we could get a bunch of us together? Given the 3 hour difference in drive times I'd have to go to Wahweap to start rather than Bullfrog.

How many of you would legitimately be interested in trying to plan something for summer 2019? AJ, were you asking about the boat situation because you were interested too? Maybe this deserves it's own thread...
