Mounting a grill swim deck

Post by SAB220 »

2004 - 220
Anyone mount a removable grill on the swim deck? I'm considering mounting the actual grill mount plate to go totally through the swim deck. (The swim deck has and obvious top surface and bottom surface.) I assume the swim deck is fill of flotation foam? Should I be concern with water intrusion in the deck....

Yep look at skideracers 250 thread. You will wreck it. And it's got metal in it.

There 's 2" metal tubing that surrounds/protects the swim deck and that's screwed into the deck bottom surface. I'll use the same hardware for the deck top. The metal core makes it easier

Go to the end of his thread and you can make your decision after that.

Yes will post pictures, Also have a rectangular table to mount inside (above the gas tank) half over the rear bench through the snap down carpet (3/8" screw's ?) for the "condiments"

So far I believe the swim deck is a wood core, drill through and bolt with fender washers, and nylon nuts (all SS). I ve read 1/4" x 20 x 3" will do the job but that seems a little long. Treat studs with 3m 4200 to seal. drill a 1/16 over for the 4200. That's the plan.

It’s possibly not wood if it is OEM. Take a look at the link BbP sent, page 5.

Can't wait to see it. Welcome from Wisconsin. Go into the member section and introduce yourself with some pictures.
This is the table I'm going with. Then it will look more factory.

I would use larger screws in the floor.

Thw platform is not wood core, it's a plastic honeycomb with a little wood around where the steps attach to hold the screws.

To mount a grill platform, you'll have to use through bolts, because the honeycomb can't hold screws. You'll want to make sure that your holes are not line d up over one of the steel cross beams. Then, if it were me, I would drill the hole oversize, and then fill it with epoxy. After the epoxy has cured, go back and drill your 1/4" holes. This will ensure that any water can't get into the core of your platform. Believe me - you don't want that even though there's no wood.

Then, still use the 4200 to seal the bolts.

With that approach, you should be good to go. I'm doing that exact process on my underwater lights now. I'll post some pictures.

Thanks - there six bolts in the mounting plate, I think, at least one of them is going to hit that metal grating. I think my drill holes will stay away from edges maybe offset a bit. I think pilot holes will help.

Pictures attached The table 1/4 x 1" screws are loose waiting for the cleaning/carpet install (the gas tank is a 1 1/4 -1 3/8 below deck tested each through hole first - also opened tank access panel to verify (replacing anti-siphon valve this year) I may have to order 3/4 screws. The Magma grill is the problem 45-50 pounds of grill on top of a mount with plastic threads. How long is that going last. Its a FW boat but if anchored and somebody flies by me and I get a wake can't hold a hot grill. When in use need to lash the grill (wire cable) to the boat hold down cleat (one reason its on the STBD). BTW everything is removable except the screwed pads
