Music Player Sharing
Music Player Sharing
An issue has floated around for a long time of getting a group of boats able to play the same music when rafted up. A while back there were the FM converters which didn't work well and I have not really heard of another way for a group of boats to all have volume control of the same music. Does anyone in the group know of an app or some other way to share music over wi-fi or bluetooth etc? It doesn't seem like a difficult problem to solve technically but just don't know of anything currently available. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!

Why wouldn't you all just pick a station on pandora, iheart, and spotify?

You could try Ampme. But you may run into music sync problems because of different data speeds across mobile networks.

Might look at Chromecast Audio devices. When they are on the same wifi network, you can group them. I have 3 at my house, and when I select the group it basically turns 3 separate stereos into a whole-home audio system. You can adjust the audio delay for each one individually to eliminate any sync timing issues. Not sure if you can do it ad-hoc (without a wireless router), but might be worth looking in to.

Re: Music Player Sharing
The tech is getting so close to making this very simple. This could be rigged up in what seems complicated/not terrible with lets say 2-4 boats. Using apple products and power inverters. Starting with establishing a network using an AirPort express ($100), then Apple Tvs ($129 refurb-$150 new) with aux cords going to head units. Apple just updated their software to Airplay to multiple devices so one phone could connect to a few apple tvs and play the same audio.

^^ Agreed on the tech. The cost is why I suggested Chromecast Audio devices, they are $35 each. Then use someone's phone as a wifi hotspot as Bfun suggested. CCA devices are powered by USB cables too, easy to plug into a USB port on a head unit for power or a cigarette lighter adapter.

Looks cool but still a little pricey at $159 per unit. Still seems like there should be an app based solution.

The Wetsounds solution works well, have a friend that uses it. Gotta pay to play.
