Re: Water test questions
Changed the fuel filter/water separator. No water droplets seen, but found a small amount of moisture when tested the sample with Kolor Kut.
Added Sea Foam treatment to clear that up.
Boat pulls hard, and is only making the popping sounds once it hits 5500 RPM(46 mph GPS). Sounds like it is bouncing off the rev limiter. Drop back to 5450 and it goes away. We are going to try to hook up a mechanical tach to see where we really are with the RPM. The boat handles seas well, and doesn't seem to notice the tanks being full and extra people being aboard.
I'd love to find a set of F5 props to try out, but can't locate a set anywhere. There are none at dealers in Canada right now, and the price to bring them from the US puts them out of reach to buy new from South of the border.

Re: Water test questions
OK willyswagon you got me at “working at my distillery”! You are very welcome here. And here! My 2014 vp 6.0 380 is propped with ss FH4’s (only one recommended) per the book on the R5. Does hit right at 6000 rpm after obtaining it within a few seconds at wot. Never heard any popping or any rev limiter. Have run at wot enough I would think but generally don’t for very long. Looks like other responses are spot on also. I would check the risers but even if it weren’t flushed every time it may not be a huge issue since still pretty new. You can make it great again.
Good you have a relationship dealer. That should help.
Will pm you my shipping address for when the time comes to send a package!

Re: Water test questions
I see the fh5 prop for the 26sd. Also the dry wt is up 660 lbs over the R5. And with the hull difference I would expect a few kts lower than the R5.

Re: Water test questions
Nope, tried that.
It is only going to get worse from here on out with all of the tariffs.

Re: Water test questions
I was looking on line this am, and noticed that all of the water test reviews of the 26 SD were done with minimal fuel and 1 crew. I'm doing it with full fuel, water, 3 people, fully kitted up with safety gear, and spare fluids for both the boat and passengers. I'll have to see how it works out on the weekend as the weight is shredded off with the tanks lowering.

All mfg test seem that way. You take a 1000 lbs of your boat and that's 3-4 mphwillyswagon wrote: Fri Jun 29, 2018 4:33 am I was looking on line this am, and noticed that all of the water test reviews of the 26 SD were done with minimal fuel and 1 crew. Re: Water test questions
Yeah Matt, , it's so they can "claim". I raced offroad dirt bikes for years, and it's the same way in that industry. Everyone wants a light bike, so the manufacturer weighs in a new bike without fluids, fuel, armor, guards, and whatever else they can strip. Then "claim" the weight advantage over the next guy.
Boats are the same I'm sure. They probably test with minimal fuel and say its half a tank, and run test with absolutely nothing onboard, then put someone at the helm that's shorter than BB. Then they "claim" whatever they come up with.
Then we wonder why we can't run out at the manufacturers specs with a case of beer on ice, life jackets, water toys stowed, our fat asses behind the wheel and a wife with a kid or two in the bow.
"They say my boat will run 54 and I'm only getting 43?"
On another note, Willy we're kindred spirits. I live on land that's been in my family since 1889 and my great uncle made shine back in the day. I can show you several still locations with chopped barrels and copper tubing hidden in the woods. They used alarm bells, dogs and kids to warn them of the feds when they were coming. They would swoop in, destroy the still, then my Uncle would go out and make another one. As far as I know he never got caught, and my cousins always claimed folks would come from miles around for Uncle Joe's shine!

Re: Water test questions
So, I hooked the boat to the truck and made the 3 hr drive to the nearest Volvo dealer. Hooked the boat up to the computer and found no engine codes. Took it for a water test so the mechanics could hear it run, and log readings. Well no problem getting it to make the popping noise. Nothing came up on the computer, so they are going to send the data to Volvo Canada.
What we did notice is that once we hit 4900 RPM, if we ran the throttle up very slowly from there we were able to get to 5400 RPM before it would start to pop. If we gave it a large burst of throttle at 4900 it would do it instantly. They were at a loss as this is the first 6.0l they have worked on. I'm wondering if it is a problem with the Variable Valve Timing, or a fuel issue.
Stay tuned cause the battle continues

Thanks for the update Willy. It'll be interesting to see what they come up with.
