Upholstery yellowing
Upholstery yellowing
Boat is a 2006 Cobalt 262 Bowrider and I had some small mildew spots to remove. When I applied the Marine 31 Mildew Remover product to my white Cobalt 262 seats to remove some very small mildew spots I was shocked when the seat immediately began to turn yellow. I quickly grabbed a wet towel and tried to get the material off but the damage had been done. I wrote to Marine 31 about this and they consulted their chemist who said there is nothing in the product to cause this. I then tried it on another small hidden area of the same upholstery and the yellowing did not occur.
I wrote a note to Cobalt about 3 weeks ago but no response from them at all. Has anyone else had an issue of upholstery turning yellow after applying a cleaner? This boat is stored on a lift in a covered dock with a full waterline cover at all times. See pictures

Yep. Is a chemical reaction to what was prev on there or in the glue under it being pulled up. Hose the heck out of it. Water is your friend. Let it sit in the sun as much as you can. Sun is your friend. May only take 24 hours. Mine took the summer on one boat. Any cleaner can cause it even if it's eco friendly. It will be ok.

Re: Upholstery yellowing
I have the same mildew cleaner and just used up about ⅓ of the bottle on my other boat seats on Monday. No issues there on the white vinyl at all. Was pretty impressed at how easily the small spots went away. Glad I did not try it on the Cobalt, nor need to. I may ditch the bottle of Marine 31 (or stick it far away in the basement), just so I am not tempted to spray it and get these results.
Please post back what you do to get the yellow to go away. Like BBP said, I bet the sun will take care of it.

Hey jbd70, welcome to the Cobalt chat forum. So glad you found us.
I’ve owned a 262 and now a 263. Never used your product. I’m a big Meguiar’s degreaser fan. I use it on the vinyl then apply 303 followed by Vinyl sauce.
Like BBP said, sun is your friend. What happens when you use a small amount of bleach or magic eraser? Btw, be especially careful of the threads. In fact, keep any toxic chemicals away from all threads.
....and again, welcome aboard mate.

I use the Babes Boat line, stuff is fantastic. I strongly recommend it. The boat bright I use to wipe down th hull is great, rarely have to wax the boat

There are many cleaners available to clean mildew but with me, I used Star Brite Mold to remove them from boat seats, it's very good

Hey BeoU. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us.
I haven’t tried the Starbrite Mold product but absolutely love their hull cleaner to remove yellowing on the bottom side. Spray on and spray off. No scrubbing.
Any pics of your Cobalt? How about an interior shot?
Again welcome aboard mate!
