Interesting read and I liked reading the comments as well. I too wonder if it is purely cost of ownership in the Chicago area. I can tell you when I bought my lake home last year it didn’t come with a slip. I called every marina within a 10 mile radius and all of them had a waiting list. I was able to get into where I am at because I was a cobalt owner and they sell cobalts there. When I talked to them he said they had over 80 people on their waiting list. But wanted to fill the place with cobalts to help sales.

boat sales are up overall. Thats a fact. Think this is a Chicago thing personally. I'm hoping the idiot who posted the comment about powerboating vs. kayaking being drunk was just a joke..... but if he was serious...well...cant say its surprising. Agree with Tgrace as well, its damn near impossible to get a slip on TR remotely close to where you want to be. Everyone has a waiting list. And I dont think its bad policy to pick and choose slip owners. They are running a business and if more Cobalts in slips = higher sales, thats a no brainer decision. In my business we have what we call A, B, C or even D clients. Guess who gets priority service? It just makes good business sense. Ok thats a bit off topic but the other comments about parents catering to kids activities and spending almost their entire free time shuttling them to and from is a real thing. My sister and brother in law do this with their kids soccer. Its insane really. They have almost no free time. They also desperately want to own their own boat but have not yet pulled the trigger because right now they struggle with the cost/benefit when all these other activities take up so much time. They are now considering just getting a pool because that is something they can use more often. But again, boat sales are up so someone is buying them. And I will continue to be one of them

Yep for sure man! I also forgot to mention that in my talking with Phil (the harbor owner) I also told him that I am a home owner on Indian point. He said that also factored in his decision to move me up the list. Because he not only wants Cobalts to fill his harbor. He also wants return business. So by me being right up the road he knows I won't be moving out in a year.

I know this isnt a harbor fan thread but they really have been great. Gave me a great price on my boat, got me in a slip on a new dock, service guys have been great, gave me a loaner boat at no cost while mine was in the shop, didnt charge for new deckbox locks after having to cut mine off because i forgot my keys, and theyre putting in corner wood platforms in my slip at 50% of the cost to them so i can access the bow more easily. At some point i may move if we end up with a proper lake house in the kimberling area but they are making that a tough decision to move.....if we ever do. If i could find a nice 3br unit in our price range and with a proper lake view on IP closer down to the marina that might seal our decision to never move away.

Having service guys right there as well is a big plus. They were down in 5 mins after my last engine episode to diagnose my issue. The only thing id wish so far is if theyd keep more volvo parts on hand so i dont have to wait to get engine fixed

yeah I hear you on that one man. I know when it is time for me to upgrade boats I am just going to tell them what I am looking for like what you did. I know as long as I am on Indian point I won't look to move out. I actually almost got a slip at Indian point Marina. I had called them in the middle of winter and their waiting list was pretty short. But so glad it worked out that I got into the Harbor.

Personally, trends all come and go, and come back, and go again. Highs and lows that are always on a wavy line along a straight normal line.
Like everything in life, there are highs and lows.
I bought my Harley in 2006 when things were all about OCC, Jesse James WCC, and Indian Larry. One is bankrupt, one is gone and the other is dead. Harley is struggling and the chopper market? Well, RIP..

Boating, like everything else will have it’s highs and lows. Cobalt is in full production and sold out. In 5 years? Who knows... they could fall flat on their faces again..
